The Men's Pipe Invitational Trials, Specialty event, decided the two Wild Cards left to BILLABONG PIPE MASTERS , that has forecast for opening at 7:30 am - WST and 3.30 pm in Rio de Janeiro -Brazil.
The world of surfing is very concerned about who finally will be the World Champion this season?
Wade Carmichael(AUS) and Bruce Irons(HAW) will replace Freddy Patacchia(HAW) and the injured Matt Banting(AUS). The two left Wild Cards were decided by the Trials.
Let's comment about the Trials.
The Trials were decided yesterday in Pipeline allong all day. There were 32 surfers: 28 Hawaiian surfers; 2 Australians; and 2 North Americans.
We can point out some known surfers as:
Round 1-
heat 1
Jack Freestone(AUS)already received Wild Card to dispute the World Circuit;
Sunny Garcia(HAW)was the World Champion in 2000/ASP.
heat 2
Mason Ho(HAW) already received Wild Card to dispute the World Circuit.
Dane Reynolds(USA)has already been in the elite of surfing.
heat 6
Jamie O'Brien - Already won this stage in Pipeline in 2004, broke serie of Andy Irons(HAW)
who had won in 2002/2003 and after in 2005/2006
Myles Padaca - Won the Rip Curl Cup in 2001.
Round 1 -
The eight heats of Round 1 were- 4 men- heats.
The best grade in this Round was a 16.23 of the Hawaiian surfer Kekoa Cazimero(HAW) in the heat 7, who reached the Final but was not so well.
The second best grade was a 13.76 of Gavin Gillete(HAW)who was defeated at Quarterfinals by Jack Robinson(AUS), in the heat 2.
The two surfers the scored better grades in each heat of Round 1 passed into the Quarterfinals.
As were eight heats, 16 surfers passed into the Quarterfinals.
And 16 surfers were out of the Trials.
Dane Reynolds(USA)that I knew in Imbituba-Santa Catarina was out of the Trials.
Quarterfinals
The four heats of Quarterfinals were -4 men-again.
The best grade in the Quarterfinals was a 15.17 of Mason Ho(HAW) in the heat 2.
The second best grade was a 10.50 of Jamie O'Brien(HAW), in the heat 3.
The third best grade was a 9.83 of Jack Robinson(AUS) in the heat 2
The two surfers the scored better grades in each heat of Quarterfinals passed into the Semifinals.
As were four heats, eight surfers passed into the Semifinals
And eight surfers were out of the Trials
Semifinals
The two heats of Semifinals were 4 men.
The best grade in the Semifinals was a 18.00 of Jamie O'Brien(HAW) in the heat 2.
The second best grade was a 13.00 of Jack Robinson(AUS) in the heat 1.
The two surfers the scored better grades in each heat of Semifinals passed into the Final.
As were two heats, four surfers passed into the Final.
And four surfers were out of the Trials.
FINAL results
1. Jack Robinson(AUS) 9.43
2. Jamie O'Brien (HAW) 8.70
3.Mason Ho(HAW) 5.50
4. Kekoa Cazimero(HAW)1,50
All these athletes surfed well the tubes in Pipeline since the opening the Trials:
Kekoa Cazimero(HAW) scored a 16.23 in the heat 7 - Round 1;
Mason Ho(HAW)scored a 15.17 in the heat 2 of Quarterfinals.
Jamie O'Brien(HAW) scored a 18.00 in the heat 2 of Semifinals.
Jack Robinson(AUS) scored a 13.00 in the heat 1 of Semifinals.
Except Gavin Gillete(HAW)that scored 13.76 in the Round 1, but did not surf so well in the Semifinals.
The best grade in the Trials was a 18.00 of Jamie O'Brien(HAW)who already won this stage, and had a lot experience in the tubes of Pipeline - See -What Adriano de Souza(BRA)said about him- Post Mar Pequeno -
At final, Jack Robinson(AUS)scored the best grade and received his Wild Card to this famous stage.
Jamie O'Brien(HAW) also received his Wild Card, to Billabong Pipe Masters.
I just would like to pointed out that usually some people in Surf Magazines in Brazil anwered to the question:
Which is your favorite surfer ?
Jamie O'Brien(HAW) - He had many fans in Brazil, for sure.
I have a Jamie O'Brien Surf movie - It is very good, he has his own style with great technique and beautiful manuever to watch.
Let's watch his performance in the stage in Pipeline.
He is the heat 5 against Filipe Toledo(BRA).
Finally the 4 four Wild Cards were defined:
Two Australian surfers: Wade Carmichael(AUS) and Jack Robinson(AUS); and two Hawaiian: Bruce Irons(HAW) and Jamie O'Brien, both already won this stage.
After the Trials defined the stage with 36 surfers of :

BRA - 7
HAW- 6
USA- 5
SAF - 1
PYF - 1
FRA - 1
IRE - 1
NZL - 1
So let's who will be champion of this stage - the most important in the World Circuit - and the World Champion of 2015 Season!!!
