THE NEW KING OF THE WAVES

The Brazilian Storm lost strenght in 2016.After Gabriel Medina won the title of World Circuit of Surfing in 2014 and Adriano de Souza, o Mineirinho repeated the conquest in the next year, this time a Hawaiian at 24 years old, returned the hegemony to traditional powers of the sport.

With a stage of antecedence, John John Florence yesterday clinched the title of Champion of the Season when advanced to the Final of dispute in Peniche, Portugal.  In the Final did not dissappoint
and also conquered the Cup of the stage overcame the American Conner Coffin by 16.87 to 9.93.

Witth the result, John John postponed the dream of Medina, deputy leader of World Championship, on pursuing the bichampionship. The Hawaiian celebrate his first title in the elite of surfing.

-All my life drove me in the direction of this Title. I do not believe that I am the Champion. This was my dream. I'm so stoke -Celebrate Florence.

With the victory the Hawaiian reached 56,400 points in the Ranking. In second place, Medina has 45,450 points, followed by the South African Jordy Smith with 41,500 points. In Pipeline,in Hawaii, in Deceber the dispute will be for the deputy Champion.

Florence  finished a 12-year period without title of Hawaiian surfers in the Circuit. The last Champion of the American State - which is considered a country  part - was Andy Irons in 2004.

To reach the Final and win the stage of Peniche,John John Florence conquered the title of World Champion of Surfing.

lamentaram a sujeira do Mar, e alguns atletas chegaram, inclusive a passar mal,
após competir.

Stage of Rio moves of site due to  the pollution

The World Surf League(WSL, in English)announced yesterday that the stage of
Rio de Janeiro, before held in Postinho of Barra da Tijuca, will be disputed
in Saquarema in 2017. The change is due to mainly by the condictions of water,
that suffers with the pollution. In 2015, surfers that disputed the stage of Rio
regretted the dirt of the Sea, and some athletes came likely to feel bad,
after competing.

A Hawaiian on the way of bi

At coldness of numbers, nine surfers enter the Sea of Supertubos, in Peniche(Portugal)from today, still with chances of conquering the title of World Circuit of Surfing. In fact, the conquest of Cup of the season is polarized between two of major names of new generation, John John Florence and Gabriel Medina.

Pointed out by the fans as the most talented surfer nowadays, the Hawaiian of 23 years old enter the Portuguese waters with an advantage of 2,700 points over the Brazilian- 20,000 points are in game in the two last stages of World Circuit. John John pursues his first title, knows that will have to surf his best to overcome the 2014 Champion. Medina 22 years old, usually rises his level in decisive moments. It was in this way last year, when began bad the season, but recovered himself in second half-yearly and arrived to the last stage with good chances of being bichampion -finished in second in the stage and the third position in the World Championship.

To take the decision of the title another time to the tubes of the beach of Hawaii, scenery of his consecration two years ago, Medina needs to finish the stage at least in the Quarterfinals. The two favorites to the title still try to win in Portugal. The Brazilian already disputed a Final in Peniche in 2012. The best result of John John was a third place in 2014. Last year Medina advanced to the Quarterfinals and Florence stopped in Round 3 - the victory was of Filipe Toledo, one of the three Brazilians with chances of title(the other is the defending Champion, Adriano de Souza, the Mineirinho).

-I am so happy to come back to Peniche. It is a place where the waves are actually good - said Medina. -I am confident. After France(was vice-champion in Hossegor)arrived closer to the leadership and I will do my best.

The window of the stage of Portugal goes till day 29th.

On a day of few waves, Gabriel Medina defeated the Australian Julian Wilson in the Quarterfinals

MEDINA FOLLOWS BEHIND JOHN JOHN

On a day of eliminations of Filipe Toledo and Adriano de Souza, Brazilian advances to the Semifinals of the French stage of the Circuit

Hossegor, France

If the "Brazilian storm" wants to keep the hegemony of World Surfing, all the chips should be bet now in Gabriel Medina. After a stage that was not very good to the surfers of the country, he leaves France as the main rival of the leader, the Hawaiian John John Florence. In case of good waves, the championship finishes today, with the Semifinals between Medina and the American Kolohe Andino and between John John and other Hawaiian Keanu Asing.

Dispute

Brazilian needs to take  the difference of 4,200 to the Hawaiian surfer

In excellent sharp, John John keep himself for at least a stage more with the "yellow jersey" of the Ranking leader. After Hossegor, will remain only two stages to the end of the Circuit.
The next one will be in Peniche, in Portugal, between 18th and 29th of this month. However the "trend" is that one more time the fight for the title will stay to the legendary beach of Pipeline, in Hawaii, between 8th and  20th of December. In this period, Medina has to take the difference that nowadays is 4,200 points. Each stage  give 10,000 points to the champion.
-It was very good to the title's fight, that John John and I advanced to the Semifinals, I hope to arrived powerfull in Hawaii. At the moment, I just think to do my work - affirmed Medina.
John John was the hangman of the Brazilians in France. On the way to the Semifinals, the Hawaiian defeated Adriano de Souza, in the Recap (10.67 to 10.37)and Filipe Toledo in the Quarterfinals:14.40 to 11.07. While this, Gabriel Medina, classified himself directly to the Quarterfinals, defeated the Australian Julian Wilson, tormentor of Caio Ibelli in the Recap. The fight to arrive to the Semifinals happened with few waves on the sea. The Brazilian won with aerials manuevers that guaranteed 15.07 against 10.13 of his rival.

OVERCAME  Filipe Toledo advanced to Round 3 -WSL/KELLY CESTARI

The holding of Round 2 in Hossegor(FRA)stage of WCT had some surprises yesterday. The biggest one was the early elimination of the American Kelly Slater.  HOSSEGOR, FRANÇA - Brazil started well the ninth and antepenultimate stage of the World Circuit of Surfing. Yesterday, in Hossegor, France, five Brazilian athletes won their first heats and advanced to the Round 3. Among them are the last two world champions: Adriano de Souza, Mineirinho, and Gabriel Medina.

Second place in the ranking with 37,450 points, Medina tries to overcome  in this stage the Hawaiian John John Florence, who has 41,650. For this, the 2014  World Champion has to win in Hossegor, and hopes that the rival arrives at most  to the Quarterfinals.

The Hawaiian also overcame his first challenge by winning the sixth heat against the American Conner Coffin and the French Joan Duru. If  stops in the Semifinals in France, Medina only conquer the leadership of the World Circuit of Surfing if  the Hawaiian does not surpass the next heat that will compete.

The last surfer of the country that entered  the water, Adriano  de Souza scored 14 points  and, with very tranquility, overcame the Tahitian Michel Bourez and the Australian Adam Melling. Besides Mineirinho, are in the Round 3, the Brazilians Miguel Pupo, Ítalo Ferreira and Caio Ibelli.

By the way Filipe Toledo, Alejo Muniz, Jadson André and Alex Ribeiro went to the recap(Round 2), to be held today if the waves support in Hossegor.
