YELLOW-GREEN HEGEMONY TILL IN ARTIFICIAL WAVES

Medina departs to Europe with two wins in eight stages
Extend on the Brazilian supremacy in World Championship of Surfing,
Gabriel Medina conquered yesterday the first stage of the history of the world
elite of surfing in artificial wave in the Surf Ranch Pro, in California. It
was the seventh Brazilian win in eight stages, with Filipe Toledo in second
place.

The dispute ocurred in swimming pool of wave created by Kelly Slater let difficult the
fight for the top of World Ranking, which Filipe follows the leader, but now
Medina decreased the difference to 5,100 points.

Another Brazilian in the final was Miguel Pupo, that finished in the seventh
position. The three represented Brazil in the Final, which each surfer had four
chances of surf a "left", beyond three trials to the "right" being that the
best two of each direction defined the champion.

The surfer of Maresias, São Paulo was the leader of the dispute since the
first day of the event and yesterday, in the decision against the other best
seven, surfed very well again. Leader of the event, he always entered for the
last, each game to take his waves knowing exactly the score he needed to follow
in the top. There were two waves each games, one to each side, and in the last moment
they gave an extra wave to the left in the Final; offering two lefts and a right
to define the champion.

Medina opened his participation with a fall in wave to left but soon surfed a
wave to right with grade 8.73, scoring the best grade of the game in this
direction. In the second game, he soon tried to surf left, in which, he gave
many snaps till finalized with excellent aerial so high. With this wave, scored
8.53 and took the leadership of decision to the last game.

Still leader of the Ranking, the surfer of Ubatuba(São Paulo)Filipe Toledo was the
biggest threat for Medina. In the decisive game, he needed to score a grade 8.06
in one of two lefts left - that he still had to turn over Medina. However he did not
reach the performance, and in his last attempt he tried an aerial and falled down
and scored 7.23 enought only to keep his place in the second position.

Medina, than, entered the water already champion and only played in his last performances
in the left he surfed with flag of Brazil on his back and surfed the right with the cap.

The flag was the symbol of hegemony of the country in the season that has Medina as deputy
of the Ranking which the leader is Filipe with three stages left.
The Circuit now goes to Europe, where Gabriel used to surf very well.

Searching for the 2018 World Champion title WSL - World Surf League

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Searching for the 2018 World Champion title WSL - World Surf League
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the event OI RIO PRO in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the World Circuit of Professional Surfing departed to the other side of the world, to the beautiful waters of Bali in Indonesia, one of the most famous  and glamorous stages of "pro" surfing. Bali returned to the World Circuit this season.

Replaced the event of  Fiji(CT#5)that was out this year.

Two events were disputed in Bali, Indonesia, as follows:

CT# 5 - Bali Pro Keramas -Bali, Indonesia;

CT# 2 - Uluwatu CT Indonesia - Bali, Indonesia - June 08th/11th; -replaced Margaret River, Australia, that was  cancelled due "shark atictivity in the competition area.

The Brazilian surfer of Rio Grande do Norte(RN)Italo Ferreira(BRA)clinched his second championship in the season; he also won in Bells Beach, Australia, however Julian Wilson(AUS)still was in the top of the the Jeep Leaderboard Ranking and wore the Yellow Jersey in Uluwatu CT Indonesia. In the second contest in Bali, another Brazilian surfer clinched the Championship, this time was William Cardoso(BRA)but the Ranking did not change so much.

CT#6 - In July the World circuit went to Jeffreys Bay, South Africa, for disputing the Corona Open J-Bay. Filipe Toledo(BRA)faced the Australian Wade Carmichael(AUS)and overcame the rookie again(the first was in Saquarema, Brazil and overcame another Australian, Julian Wilson in the Ranking. So the surfer of Ubatuba,(São Paulo)reached the top of the Jeep Leaderboard Ranking; 2014 World Champion, Gabriel Medina(BRA)was the third in the Ranking and Italo Ferreira(BRA)the fourth. So now Filipe Toledo(BRA), so focused this season and in great shape would wear the Yellow Jersey in Tahiti, French Polynesia.

CT#7 - In August the CT arrived in Teahupo'o, one of the most traditional and beautiful beaches of the World Circuit of Surfing . Last year, G. Medina(BRA) was defeated by J. Wilson(AUS)on the last wave of the contest for small difference. The 2014 World Champion, G. Medina(BRA) with his greatness declared that J. Wilson(AUS)deserved the victory. But this season was different. The Brazilian surfer of Maresias beach, São Sebastião, São Paulo(SP) clinched the championship in Tahiti over the Australian O. Wright(AUS)- always surfed very well there - and jumped to the second
position of the Jeep Leaderboard Ranking, and has a difference of 6,300 points of the top 1 - Filipe Toledo(BRA).

CT#8 -Surf Ranch Pro , Lemoore, California, United States of America -
The Brazilian Filipe Toledo(BRA)will wear the Yellow Jersey in this different contest. The top 1, "Filipinho" that is is living in California, clinched the Championship last year in Trestles. The competition this year will be so different  with a window of only four days; September 6th/9th, because the waves are created by a mechanism, that controls the water  the wind, and the competition do not depend directly of nature, swells, and so...
------------------------------------------------------------

Finally let's wait what is coming up in California, but anyway the dispute for the Title this year is so tied up between the Brazilians F. Toledo(BRA), G. Medina(BRA), I. Ferreira(BRA), and the Australians J. Wilson(AUS), W. Carmichael(AUS). F. Toledo(BRA)and J. Wilson(AUS)are seaching their first World Championship, and G. Medina(BRA)is fighting for his second title of World Champion. Last season, the talentous G. Medina(BRA)won the two next contests in France and Portugal and arrived in Pipeline with chance of being the Champion. F. Toledo(BRA)already won two events this season, in Brazil and South Africa, and he  is his best moment in the World Circuit since he entered in 2013, at my opinion.

2017/2018 OVERVIEW - surfworldtour.blogspot.com

2017/2018 OVERVIEW - surfworldtour.blogspot.com
------------------------------------------------------------------
My first contest in professional surfing, was on Oct, 2008 in Vila Beach, Imbituba, Santa Catarina, Southof Brazil, only 400 km from my town; Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul; I used to catch a bus by Santo Anjo company at midnight-12:00 pm in Bus Station in Porto Alegre, and arrived in Imbituba at 6:00 am next morning; and let my baggage in bus station and went directly to the Contest, my first was Hang Loose Pro Santa Catarina.

After the contest in the late afternoon, I used to go by bus to Garopaba beach only 60 km from Imbituba, and stay ina "pousada" from some friends from my State, RS. So early in the morning, I came back to the event in Vila beach

I will never forget it was so nice, I arrived in Imbituba downtown and I used to have breakfast in a bakery, pastry and coffee. Some people from the event also had the breakfast there. The Australian B. Durbidge(AUS)overcame the FrenchJeremy Flores(FRA) and clinched the championship. My family name by mother side is "Flores"(common in Brazil)

In 2009 was so nice the most famous and with more titles of all the times in professional surfing,
the American of Cocoa beach, Kelly Slater(USA)clinched the event Hang Loose Pro with taught Final againstAdriano de Souza(BRA)in a Friday exactly on my Birthday, it was wonderfull, I knew a Skol model; she was from Florianopólis and was so nice and beautiful too.foto skol

In 2010, the contest moved to Billabong Pro.
The WCT World Championship Tour was supported by ASP- Association of Surfing Professionals. My first photo soearly when I arrived on the shore(foto)was from the Brazilian surfer Jadson Andre(BRA)he overcame the great championKelly Slater(USA)in tie Final.

In the final of the year, ASP announced the 2011 Contest will move to Barra da Tijuca, Rio de Janeiro. I became so happy and anxious too. Because Rio de Janeiro is 1,500 km far from my town, I  will have to fly the airplane, stay in some new place, and so.

In May of 2011 around 2:00 pm I arrived in Rio de Janeiro for the first time by Azul Airlines, at Santos Dumont aiport in downtown; I tried to find the some hotel, but I did not know anything in Rio de Janeiro, so later in the afternoon, it was getting darker and raining. So I decided to go the Novo Rio Bus Station and stay there at night. The next morning I caught a bus to Barra da Tijuca through "Quinta da Boa Vista". The contest would be Posto 4 - Sheraton Hotel - when the bus was
arriving in Barra da Tijuca, I got so shocked with the Barra da Tijuca line up. It was beautiful and powerfull too.The competitions started in Arpoador beach, in South neighbornhood of Rio de Janeiro. Arpoador beach, close the rocks was so nice too. I did not know any direction in the huge city, but the people are nice and always helped me and still are supporting me whenI go to Rio..

The next years the contest continued in Barra da Tijuca, in Postinho, Posto 2 - Pepe -famous Brazilian surfer- beach, close to
Olegário Street, in 2015 the event was supported by WSL - World Surf League - that replace ASP. During these years, I used to stay in Downtown, close to Central Station -the biggest train, underground, bus hub in Rio de Janeiro - and caught the  309 -Alvorada Bus to Barra da Tijuca, and took almost two hours and I get off in Passarela, and went walking to the shore.

In 2016, the WSL provided  Van Service to take the people to Grumari beach that was farway and there was no public transportationto there.I woke up so early 4:00 am and took the bus 316 -Yellow Line - to Recreio Shopping at 5:00 am(around 90 minutes) and at 7:00 am there took the Van from WSL to Grumari. The people from the VAN service (foto)were so nice. The Vans went and came back from Grumari to Recreio Shopping all the day. But the contest was disputed in Grumari only on the first days of the event-stage in Brazil. After the big structure in Postinho -Barra da Tijuca - had been rebuilded after the strong "ressacas" in the Ocean

.
In the final of the season, WSL announced the 2018 event will move to Saquerema, 100 km from Rio de Janeiro, which has better condictions of waves for professional surfing; the Sea is higher and owerfull. Saquarema(RJ), is famous all over the world, there contest there since 1992- is called "Maracanã of Surfing"- Maracanã is the most famous soccer stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In 2017, was my debut in Saquarema, in Itaúna beach. I stayed in Rio de Janeiro, caught a bus at 6:00 am and arrived in the event around 8:00 am. I will never forgot when the "SWELL" arrived in Saquarema, the sea was so high with strong and fast wild, the water looks like shake machine,
there were no competition on this day. I was on the "shore", I used to go every days of the stage, for filming, some photos.

This year, 2018 the contest was in Barrinha beach, close the the rocks and the church in the mountain. In the last day of the competition, on May 18th, I took the bus to Bacaxá at 4:30 in Rio de Janeiro, and get off on the highway and took a bus to Itauna beach and arrived on the shore so early and stay close two persons of Espirito Santo State, northern of Rio de Janeiro state.

They were so nice and calm. The young man was surfer I guess, and his girlfriend was photographer. I work close to them all the time, from Quarterfinals to the  Final, so I went close the podium for filming the Filipe Toledo(BRA)victory. In 2015, he clinched the championship in Barra da Tijuca too.

The surfer of Ubatuba(São Paulo) overcame Wade Carmichael(AUS), even been overcame, the Australian surfer was so happy in the podium, the dispute the Final in that famous beach, Saquarema.
Let's remind the years, and the champions, since my first WCT/CT:
