"WSL não aceitou reivindicação do bicampeão mundial, que viu erro no julgamento em sua bateria no Round of 16"

World Surf League posts video justifying decision leading to elimination of the two-time World Champion, who saw misjudgment on his heat on the Round of 16.

One day after the elimination of Gabriel Medina in Peniche, WSL posted a video on its social networks explaining why he did not comply with the request of the two-time World Champion to reconsider a priority mistake in the duel with Brazilian Caio Ibelli. The entity maintained the decision made by the judge during the confrontation and, with that, the possibility of a new battery between the two in Portugal was ruled out.

Classificação de Filipe Toledo às Quartas de Final da etapa de Portugal tiras as chances de Gabriel Medina conquistar o tricampeonato mundial antecipado

"Filipinho advances, prevents title of Medina in Peniche and postpones the decision of the World Championship of Surfing to Hawaii."

Filipe Toledo qualifying to the Quarterfinals of the stage in Portugal takes the chances of Gabriel Medina to clinch the World Championship for the three-time.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Portuguese fans will no longer be able to celebrate the title of the 2019 World Circuit on the sands of Peniche. Filipe Toledo defeated the Australian Wade Carmichael (14.60 x 9.27) and advanced to the Quarterfinals on Sunday morning.
Than, Gabriel Medina has no more chances to clinch the third World Championship antecipated, and the decision will take place in Pipeline, Hawaii.

The small sea did not help the performance of the surfers on this Sunday. Second position in the WSL ranking, behind Medina only, Filipinho had difficulties in the beginning of the heat, unable to complete the waves. If the Brazilian suffered, Carmichael had even more problems. In the first 10 minutes of the heat, very low scores. But Filipinho got a 7.17 using all the features and riding the wave from the beginning to the end. Took the lead and did not lose it anymore. The Australian still scored a 5.17, but the Brazilian responded with a 6 and then with a 7.43 to close at 14.60 against 9.27.

Divulgação WSL

Gabriel Medina entered the water in the fifth heat of the Round of 16. The opponent was Caio Ibelli. The two-time World Champion dominated with great advantage, until almost the final of the heat was punished by an interference and lost one of the scores, keeping only one wave, an 8.17. Ibelli took advantage, already had 5.40, changed the 1.77 that had a 3.10 in the last wave. He added 8.50 and got the place on Wednesday. Medina stops on the Round of 16 in Peniche.

Ranked third in the WSL Ranking and also in the fight for the title, Italo Ferreira has also shown that he will not leave the way free for the three-time Championship of Medina. He defeated the American Conner Coffin (13.83 x 10.83) and took a position in the Quarterfinals. Now Italo faces Peterson Crisanto, who left another Brazilian along the way, Jesse Mendes (14.34 x 12.46).

Olympic race

The top two surfers from each country, who finish in the top 10, guarantee a place for the Tokyo Olympics in 2020. For Brazil, Medina, Filipinho and Ítalo Ferreira make the internal dispute. One of the three will be out.
Among Women, Tatiana Weston-Webb was the first to secure Brazil's Olympic position. Gaucha-born in RS- raised in Hawaii, she advanced to the Quarterfinals in Peniche and confirmed presence in Tokyo. Silvana Lima runs after the second position of the country.

After polemic elimination, Medina vents:"I have the hope that my heat will be reviewed".

Gabriel was defeated in the Round of 16 by Caio Ibelli in the stage of Portugal and complicated himself in the dispute for the title; was punished by interference.
 -----------------------------------------------------------------------------

A polemic Sunday in Portugal stage of the World Circuit of surfing. The current leader of the Ranking, Gabriel Medina was defeated in the Round of 16 by Caio Ibelli. The two-time World Champion led so ahead until almost the final of the heat when was punished by interference and lost one of the scores, keeping only one wave of 8.17. Ibelli took advantage, already had 5.40, changed 1.77 by a 3.10 in the last wave. Added 8.50 and got the position in the Quarterfinals. Medina stopped in the Round of 16 in Peniche.

On social networks, the Brazilian vented and even asked for the heat to be reviewed:

- I would like to explain what happened on my heat. Caio and I surfed the same wave and each one went for a side. My wave was shorter and his was longer. So that while I was back outside, he was still riding his wave. When I got to the line up, I was so sure the priority was mine that I did not look at the priority sign. To my surprise, when the next wave came, I went to surf it because I was sure the priority was mine. I took the interference.

And he completed:
When I got out of the water I went to talk to the judges. We looked at the open images of the two of us padling back to the line up with an open camera angle. It was very clear that I arrived well before. And even if I had gotten along with him and had a draw, the priority would be mine by the rule. Because in the wave we surfed together before, Caio had priority 1. I hope my heat will be reviewed because an error has occurred.

THE BLOG'S BACK II by Paulo Piqueres

THE BLOG'S BACK II      - Check The blog's back I on September 2016-
-----------------------------

First of all I "APOLOGIZE" all the readers of the blog because I did not post anything since June 2019 -OI RIO PRO , so I will explain why.

I am from RS, and created the blog surfworldtour.blogspot.com in March, 2010.
My first World Championship of Surfing  was in 2008 in Imbituba, Santa Catarina, when Bede Durbidge(AUS)defeated Jeremy Flores(FRA) in the Final; I went to 2009 and 2010 WCT also in Imbituba. In 2011 the Brazilian stage moved to Rio de Janeiro. I have been already to 11 WCTs, I do everything for myself: travel to competitions, take pictures, film, and edict the posts, prepare the videos for my surf channel -Surf Pro Channel by Youtube.com, everything in English.

This year I came to Rio de Janeiro in January for vacation and follow up the WSL - World Surf League competition till May, because when Corona Bali Protected entered in the WSL schedule, the OI Rio Pro in Saquarema moved to June, but I did not bring my equipment: Sony camera, Dell notebook and so on.

My plan was to go to RS, the Southern state of Brazil, take my equipment, Winter clothing and come back to Rio de Janeiro in June; I bought the airplane tickets and departed to the South.

This year was so cold in the South -the worst in the last 20 years- and I took a strong flu and had to take antibiotics, and unfortunatelly I could not came back to Rio de Janeiro, to 2019 OI Rio Pro in Saquarema; I became so sad and upset because since 2008 I went to all WCT(now CT) in Brazil, so I let the blog posts for while for recovering my health, the necessary energy to keep going. My site surfworldtour.com is not on line anymore, but I will prepare a new design for next year, 2020.

Besides this my mother that has 84 years old, was not so well -my beloved father already passed away in 2005- and I could not concentrate myself in the posts, - versions, overviews, tributes, etc; the cold also let my inspiration away, somedays when was 5º Celsius I only stayed at home. My loft is double walled house and maintain the moisture, I guess was one of the worst Winter that I passed in the South mainly in July and August.

As I usually did everything for myself, the blog had no posts, after the 2019 OI Rio Pro, I mean I missed South Africa, Tahiti, USA and France. Fortunatelly in October I was feeling better, and traveled to Rio de Janeiro by plane on the last Saturday, and now I will continue working on the blog, in the competition of Portugal - CT#9 for Women's and CT#10 for Men's, but I will present the Champions of each stage to updated the blog.

In 2016 exactly after the  last day of competition in Barra da Tijuca, I arrived in the hotel where I always stayed in Rio de Janeiro downtown, and after the dinner the premolar tooth began to bleed.
I was so scared because some years ago I already had problem of blood coagulation during a "wisdom tooth" extraction. The surgery of my "wisdom tooth" took 3 hours and half, that extration was in Porto Alegre with two dentists, that were assistants of one famous teacher of Odontology .They said I had hemorrhage because the difficult position of tooth and I might have coagulation problem
.

As soon I arrived in my town I went straight to Dental clinic to make tooth treatment.
After X-ray, the dentist -specialist in canal treatment - said that the toot was cracked, and not worth making canal treatment anymore. So I had to face another tooth "extraction".
Than, I was so worried, because I might have another hemorrhage, feel bad; I got traumatized with that "wisdom tooth" extraction. Some days after, dropped out a piece of the premolar tooth, than I went to the dentist, and he made a temporary curative. I had strong toothache, I could not do anything with concentration. If I can not do the things well, I prefer give up.
Than I decided take the blog and site down of Internet for while, this was what I called -Blog's back I;this year was Blog's back II.

I felt emotionally well to face the surgery. I explained to the dentist the hemorrhage that I had and he asked me if my health was Ok, because by my physical biotype ,the teeth are so rooted and might be easy or difficult, depends the condictions of the tooth.
I prayed a lot before the day of extraction, I had faith in God, that everything would be OK!!
The dentist, one of the best in my town, begun the surgery, and how the tooth was cracked, it came out in pieces. After, he took off the roots. The longest root had about 2/3 cm-one inch-, the other two were smaller. During the extraction just bled a little. The surgery delayed around two hours, and I was so calm, God was with me, for sure.

After, the dentist gave the medication, and I went to the drugstore, and when I was arriving home( I live alone in a loft ) started to bleed and kept bleeding during almost all night long. This time I worried about  because I was alone and could not sleep. I used toilet papers to stanch the bleeding. And I had a hard toothache , just could drink something, and not "hot".

On the next day, the dentist so attentive, called me, and asked how I was, he said to take care in the first week, to avoid "ignition" , what is called alveolitis. He said that was good to bleed for healing. I stayed at home two weeks, just drinking vegetables soup and lost weight - 7 kgs - almost 14 pounds. So I went to my doctor. He said that was normal, just do not do physical efforts, that I would recover.
So when I was feeling better I came to Rio by plane, the city that always welcomed me since 2011,to follow up the Olympic Games. COI - Comité International Olympique -announced that "Surf" - the most beautiful sport- will be an Olympic sport in Tokyo, Japan, in 2020. I filmed many competitions in Rio 2016.

After the surgery, I was feeling better, but I can not stay long time in the Sun, walk so long distances,  still can not masticate and speak very well.  But thank  God, I survived the "extraction ghost" and decided to continue my work with the blog and site.

Nowadays my blog  reached  1,116 posts, with almost 60,000 thousand access from all over the world.
We should not schedule the things in advance, because God is in charge!!!

I "APOLOGIZE" again all the readers of my blog, but this things happen, I hope to improve my work in the future as much I can

I create my blog, I will continue working because I love surf - the most beautiful sport. I do not mind with money, but with the important things that I learned and still have to learn, and with the nice friends that I made in these years. And friendship and knowledge have no "price", they are the most important things we may take from this life...

If God wants, next year 2020 and I will go to my 12th World Championship of Surfing in Brazil!!!
