Taj Burrow(AUS)was the last champion in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro, in 2002,as the World Circuit
of Surfing is back to Itauna Beach in this season in Brazil, I decided to prepare this
tribute to this famous and talentous surfer of WA- Western Australia, Australia.

In 1998, his first year on the tour, Taj Burrow(AUS)claimed the ASP -Association of Surfing Professionals- World Tour Rookie of the year award.
In 1999, the Australian surfer was deputy World Champion and the World Champion
was Mark Occhilupo(AUS)
In 1999 Taj Burrow(AUS)won two events in the World circuit of Surfing.
-Coke Surf Classic Manly, Manly Beach, Sydney, Australia;
-Rio Marathon Surf International, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
In 2007, Taj Burrow(AUS)was deputy World Champion again and the World champion
was Mick Fanning(AUS). Burrow won two events on the World Tour:
-Rip curl Pro at Bells Beach, Victoria, Australia;
-Billabong Pro in Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa.
In 2009, the Australia surfer defeated Kelly Slater(USA) in the Final of the Billabong Pipeline Masters in Banzai Pipeline, Oahu, Hawaii. In this year he finished in fourth place on the World Tour of Surfing.

In April of 2016, the West Australian surfer Taj Burrow has announced his retirement
18 year-long career on the World Tour of Surfing.

My first World Championship of Surfing was in October of 2008, in Vila Beach, Imbituba,
Santa Catarina, Taj Burrow(AUS)competed in this event, however 12 top surfers did not come
to the stage in Brazil.Bede Durbidge(AUS)defeated Jeremy Flores(FRA)in the Final.
On my second season in 2009, in the beginning of the window, there were lay days(no waves)
but I went to Imbituba anyway, because I was in Garopaba,Santa Catarina, 60 km farway, so
I used to catch the bus, early in the morning, around 6:00 am, so I did not know whether
the event would be on or Lay Day.
One day, in the morning I was on the structure of the Hang Loose Santa Catarina Pro when
I realized that Taj Burrow(AUS)arrived on the shore through the athletes entrance for a
surfing session, so I went downstairs to the shore, and asked to the great Australian
surfer for a photo, and he was so kind and stopped for my picture. I became so happy...
It was my first contact with this talentous surfer that won three times in Brazil(check
the ASP Tour Wins above.
After 2010, the World Tour moved to Rio de Janeiro, and in 2011 Taj Burrow(AUS) was
defeated by Adriano de Souza(BRA)in the Final in Arpoador Beach, otherwise he would be
the surfer with more wins in Brazil together with his compatriot, Dave Macaulay(AUS)that
has four wins in Brazil.
After that period, I went to more five events in Rio de Janeiro:
2012 -Billabong Rio Pro;
2013 -Billabong Rio Pro;
2014 -Billabong Rio Pro;
2015 -Oi Rio Pro;
2016 -Oi Rio Pro.

In 2016, Taj Burrow(AUS)did not come to Brazil, because announced his retirement of
the World Circuit of surfing in April.
Taj Burrow(AUS)always was a top surfer, so nice with everybody on the shore, he has
many fans in Brazil and in the all over the World with his progressive style, with
radical manuevers, aerials and he will always be so welcome to our country, Brazil,
as a surf idol, a legend.

Finally, I would like to thank Taj Burrow(AUS)that always was so nice with me, with my simple

friends in Australia. In the future, I intend to go to Australia, perhaps I will meet one of
