Two-time World Champion advances to the Round of 16 in
Bells Beach
The two-time World Champion, Gabriel Medina overcame with class over the "50 year storm", that brought waves of four meters. On this Thursday, in Bells Beach, in Austrália, the Brazilian entered the Sea and defeated the Australian Reef Heazlewood by 16.03 to 7.80, on the second stage of World Circuit of Surfing. So, guaranteed place to the Round of 16 of the championship.
Worth ponting out, that the region where is held the championship is known by having waves of 12 o 15 ft, that only happens in 50 years in Bells Beach.
Medina had to be intellingent to conquer the place to the next Round of the competition. He surfed the best wave of the championship till now, got three rips in sequence and a snap.
It was a good wave. Only remember of big wall in front of mine and with time to manuevers. It is what we need: hit the first manuever, read the wave and have another oportunity. In this kind of condiction is so difficult and Reef is a dangerous surfer. He surfed very well in Gold Coast. It was a good heat. I love when there are waves like that and think we will have a good finalof championship. said Gabriel on interview to World Surf League.
In the heat 13, Ítalo started slow, but found in the second half of the dispute the surf that brought his title in Bells last year. With the score of 13.76 points, the number 1 of the world overcame Freestone, that only took 9.10 score of the two best waves.
