Traditionally, the best surfers of the world start the season on the Snapper Rocks waves in Australia and want to reach well positions in the Ranking to the final stage in Pipelin i Hawaii. This year, it is no exaggeration to say that the thinking of the most part of the surf elite is a little further: at Tsurigasaki beach in Chiba, Japan, site of the sport's Olympic debut. The debut. The 2019 Championship Tour(CT), which starts tomorrow in Australia will be the main competition to distribute vacancies for the Tokyo Games -2020, ranking the top ten in the Men's and the eight best in the Women's -defining, therefore, 18 of the Olympic surfers.

The Tokyo games will be disputed by 20 men and 20 women, with a limit of only two athletes per country, promising a true "scythe fight" at the top of the CT Ranking.Even if it out of the dispute for the title, one competitor has an incentive and so much to keep going to win the heats and adding points in the world Circuit.

Brazil will once again have the higher contingente in the elite, with 11 of 34 competitors. Peterson Crisanto and Deivid Silva are the rookies, while Jadson André returns after staying a year out of the CT. Still recovering from a right knee injury, Adriano de Souza, World Champion in 2015, should be out of the early stages. In the "Brazilian storm", three names appear as favorites, to the dispute for the Olympic vacancie and the World Title: Gabriel Medina(BRA), Filipe Toledo(BRA) and Italo Ferreira (BRA). One trio of favorites Medina, Filipinho, and Italo clinched eight stages in the last year, dominating the Ranking, with Medina in 1st, conquering the World Title - Filipe in 3rd and Italo in 4th. That is, even with a great season, Italo would be out of the Olympics if 2018 season would define the vacancies to Tokyo. Everyone will get more motivation for being a qualifyng year for the Olympics. The goal is to reach a great season to get a place. My preparation is much more intense and focused on this. -said Gabriel Medina, 25 years old, two-time World Champion.*version above by Paulo Piqueres -Postgraduated in Advanced English -PUC -Pontifície Universidade Católica-Porto Alegre -RS -Brazil
