WORLD CIRCUIT OF SURFING
ITALO ADVANCES AHEAD IN THE OLYMPIC RACE
The 2019 World Circuit begun with a Brazil's win. Italo Ferreira conquered yesterda the title of the stage of Gold Coast(AUS), that opened the season of the World Circuit(WCT), when defeated the American Kolohe Andino in an exiting way in the Final with a turn in the last minutes.
Italo assured the victory by 12.57 to 12.43, in hard condictions, due the lack of waves and winds. At eight minutes remaining of the heat, Andino had the best waves of the heat: 5.93 and 6.50, adding 12.43, against 10.73 of Ítalo. But the Brazilian risked an aerial with rotation that which decreed the turn.
-It was so nice this week. It was a great Final against Kolohe. I remember that, two years ago, I had a injured here in Durambah with a reverse aerial. This year, God gave me this first position: I remember that I was so sad. I tried to work hard and give my best. I am so happy. I want to thank the Brazilian cheering that came here and my girlfriend. And, finally, I want to give 50% of my reward to the "Kids Cancer" and be able to help. Thanks - said the Number 1 of the world, in the podium
The surfer of RN(Rio Grande do Norte), finished the last season in the fourth position, clinched his fourth cup in an event of World Circuit. The others were in 2018, with wins in Bells Beach(Australia), Keramas(Bali) and Peniche(Portugal). This victory took him in the leadership of the Ranking and in advantage to the race by one of two places of Brazil in the Tokyo Olympic games.
Before the Final defeated the Australian Wade Carmichael in the Quarterfinals and, in the Semifinals, surfed a complicated heat against the South African Jordy Smith. The surfer of RN added 15.33, against 14.67 of his rival. It was a revenge to Brazil, because Smith(SAF)eliminated the current World Champion of WCT, Gabriel Medina. The surfer of São Paulo(SP)finished the event in th 5th position.
-It is difficult to compete when there is no opportunities. It was hard to find the waves. I am accepting this, mas now I want to surf more waves and have more chances in the next. I want to thank the fans by cheering and love. I see you in Bells - regreted Medina.
The second stage of the World Circuit will begin in April 17th, in Bells Beach.
