In a disputed heat the world Champion loses by 12.73 to 11.00 and is out early of the third stage of the season. Jessé Mendes defeats the South African Jordy Smith and goes to the Round of 16.

The two-time World Champion Gabriel Medina did not advance in the stage of Bali, the third of 2019 World Circuit. In this Sunday, he entered on the water to compete the Round of 32 and was defeated by 12.73 to 11.00 by the Italian Leonardo Fioravanti. The other two Brazilians also competed in the Round of 32 in this Sunday. In the heat 15, Peterson Crisanto was overcame by 13.60 to 7.60 to Japanese Kanoa Igarashi and also was out of the competition. However Jessé Mendes had better luck, when defeated the South African Jordy Smith by 11.20 to 10.33.
On this Sunday, Michael Rodrigues and Filipe Toledo advanced to the Round of 16. The window of the stage of Bali goes till next Saturday, day 25.
The opening wave of the heat was a 5.17 of Gabriel Medina. Fioravanti surfed one of 5.40 score, and a following of 0.13. Than the Brazilian surfed his second wave, trying na aerial. But the World Champion got off banlance during the movement and got only 0.93. With the difficult Sea, both surfers passed to search the points to the turn. Fioravanti went ahead with 0.80. Medina returned for leading the heat with 3.33. Right after, the Brazilian found a long wave and got 5.83, firing in the leadership. Needing a high score for turning, Fioravanti did not give up and went to seach the wave of win just three minutes from the end. Utilizing well a right wave, the Italian risked many manuevers and got 7.33 from the judges, than Medina needed a 6.91 wave for turning. Searching the wave Medina did not find the best and was eliminated.
