Gabriel Medina has to wait one more day to compete
SMALL SEA POSTPONES THE OPENING OF WCT IN HAWAII
Championship should start today with trials -32 local surfers. In Switzerland, COI accepts candidature of the modality
Oahu, Hawaii
Calm sea, with small waves, very different from those expected in the next days. Pipeline, in Hawaii, the daybrake so yesterday and the World Surf League had no doubts to postpone the opening of the last stage of world circuit.Filipe Toledo, Gabriel Medina, Adriano de Souza and the Australians Mick Fanning and Owen Wright decide the title of the season in the stage, which has deadline until next day 20 to finish.
The forecast is that good waves break today in the Hawaiian island of Oahu, opening the event. But who wants to watch the elite surfers in action will have to wait for another day. The Wednesday in Pipeline should be entirelly dedicated to Pipe Invitational, the trials that gathers 32 surfers mostly Hawaiian, who compete the two Wild Cards left.
The Hawaiian Bruce Irons(HAW), brother of the three times world Champion Andy Irons and the Australian Wade Carmichael(AUS) are already guaranteed. The Hawaiian Jamie O'Brien is one of the favorites of Trials and Mineirinho will cheer for him; his surfing sessions mate in Hawaii.
-He is sensational on the waves here in Pipeline - praises the Brazilian: - I am always watching how he surfs here, but I think the way he could help me more would be passing through the Trials and defeating one of the key heads of the championship.
The surf also was news in Switzerland yesterday.. The Executive Comission of the International Olympic Committe accepted the candidature of the modality - as well as the skateboard, baseball, softball, karate, and climbing- to become Olympic in Tokyo 2020. The decision will be announced in July of 2016, in Rio.

ANDY IRONS(HAW) -BILLABONG PIPE MASTERS IN MEMORY OF ANDY IRONS -
surfworldtour.blogspot.com TRIBUTE TO THE GREAT CHAMPION OF SURFING
This BILLABONG PIPE MASTERS is in Memory to the great Hawaiian surfer Andy Irons(HAW) that was three times WORLD CHAMPION - in consective years 2002/2003/2004 and won almost five PIPELINE MASTERS in Hawaii straight away -2002/2003 and 2005/2006, just another great Hawaiian surfer Jamie O'Brien(HAW)broken his serie.Andy Irons(HAW) is my idol and will be forever!!!
He passed away with 32 years old, and began his career at WCT -World Championship Tour -ASP -Association of Surfing Professionals,in 1998 and reached 20 victories in the elite tour, and also collected four Triple Crown of Surfing.
Now I am living in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, but when I am in my hometown in a big house and sometimes upset I just watch Andy Irons(HAW) surfing movies and I feel much better.
Andy Irons(HAW)was someone very special : fearless, strong, tall, had a strong way to eye, besides and a glamorous style. He always competed with all his strenght to win the championships. His last victory was in September,2010 in Teahuppo, Tahiti -Billabong Pro with great performance as always.
Since I entered the surfing world in 2008 certainly the sadest day for me was November 2nd, 2010 ,when I heard the news about his death in Dallas, Texas, USA; When he felt sick in Puerto Rico -and withdrew from Rip Curl Search, and was going back home to Kawaii, Hawaii. I searched the news in many related sites and did my own post(see the post on November 10th,2010 ) I remember this post was very accessed - I am able to track the blog posts.
I was so sad that I thought to quit the blog, but I realized that he would like that I should continue even without him in the surfing world. He stopped to compete in 2009 and received a Wild Card to come back in 2010 WCT.
In 2010 the WCT was in Imbituba, Santa Catarina and I used to take the bus from Porto Alegre/RS at midnight and arrive in Garopaba around 6.00 am. I was following up the competition on the Internet and Atlantida radio /RBS -Rede Brasil Sul -Globo affiliate in my state, RS. It was "lay day", my luggage was ready to travel at night, however a close friend of mine had some health problem and I had take her to the hospital so I just took the bus next night and arrived in Imbituba, at dawn.
The Round 3 was finished and Andy Irons(HAW) was defeated .So I stayed at guard-rails -surfers entrance awaiting A.I. but unfortunatelly I could meet him anymore. Who am I to call the great champion to have a picture or even shake his hand. I stayed in Praia da Vila -Imbituba till the Final of the stage where Jadson Andre(BRA) defeated the great champion Kelly Slater(USA).
I was so sad by not even see Andy Irons(HAW) despite I was in a photo on the shore with Jadson Andre and somebody else on the Billabong site of the event...Some friends of my hometown -small city close to Porto Alegre - asked me- You were at Billabong site-first page-, weren't you???
After this championship in Imbituba/SC the WCT moved to Rio de Janeiro in 2011, and I decided to continue the blog, and do not regret. At my first Billabong Rio Pro, I got a little lost in this huge town, but I did by best as always. In 2012, I bought a Nokia smarthphone with a better camera and my work got much better.
Nobody knows exactly what happens when we die!!! My dear father died in 2005, but sometimes when I am in my house in my hometown I feel his presence giving me good vibes and strenght. My father had much strenght as A.I. and always said to me:
Be always strong, play sports, and learn English, because so you can work and have a career. I studied a lot since the University; played soccer, tennis, basketball, ride a bicycle, running, swimming, motorcycle trails and so on.I just learned to surf(a little) in 2008 at Vento Sul - Surfing School in Garopaba /SC when I lived there.
I will never forget my first day of surfing lesson with the teacher, in March 2008. It was so special day, perhaps one of the happiest days in my life - My body was so tired, but my heart was very happy. That is why they say "surf is the sport of Gods".
Perhaps, Andy Irons(HAW)was a "HAWAIIAN GOD", and we just do not know yet!!!

Filipe Toledo, who won the stage in Portugal, depends on himself to be world champion
Now is Brazil against Australia
Starting today, Filipinho, Mineirinho and Medina compete for the world title against Mick Fanning and Owen Wright.
OAHU, HAWAII
With three Brazilian at dispute of world title of surfing, the stage in Pipeline - the last of WCT season - will have the window of competitions opened today, at 4:00 pm(in Brasília). Filipe Toledo, Gabriel Medina and Adriano de Souza, the Mineirinho, duel for the trophy against the Australians Mick Fanning and Owen Wright.
The expectation of World Surf League(WSL) is that the competition will be started even today, since there is a forecast of a big swell. First, will be disputed a selective to define the last two Wild Cards to stage. - the Hawaiian Bruce Irons, brother of three times world champion Andy Irons, and the Australian Wade Carmichael took the two first Wild Cards. Than begins the main dispute.
Yesterday, many surfers used the time to do the last training session before starting the stage. One of them, was Adriano de Souza de Souza, third in the ranking that was applauded by the fans.
-Here is so hard to train, there are many people that pursuit the wave and the sea is crowded. But the persistence always prevails here. You stand there trying, trying and a time manages to take a good wave - said Mineirinho to site "Globoesporte.com".
Second in the ranking, behind only Fanning, Filipinho just depends on himself to be world champion, as Mineirinho: if one of them win the stage, surpasses the Australian.
-I will try to intubate as deeper as I get - said Filipinho, who in the last year took a fifth position in Hawaii: - This is the secret of Pipeline, there is no other strategy.
In fourth position, Medina - that in 2014 lost the final to Australian Julian Wilson - less likely to lift the trophy: needs a combination of results.

I took my degree in Business Administration, took good grades and received a scholarship from my state government,Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, to study Marketing in San Francisco State Univeristy in the United States of America. After on and worked in big companies, banks, and so on. However I hate much pressure, competition; I did not feel so comfortable at all.
In 1995, I had the opportunity to teach Statistics and English at High School. Than in 1999, I took my Postgraduate degree in Advanced English. And I quitted the lessons in May 2006.
I only entered in the surfing world in 2008 WCT- WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR - in Praia da Vila, Imbituba, Santa Catarina, South of Brazil, because I want to turn my life away, after
my father dead at final of 2005(ten years now). So I am far from being a surf analyst, but I would like just point out some DETAILS.
This championship was so different from all WCTs I had been since : 2008, 2009, 2010, in Imbituba,Santa Catarina; 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015 in Rio de Janeiro,RJ, Brazil.
In April, at second Stage-RIP CURL PRO BELLS BEACH - Australia -The final result was:
Mick Fanning(AUS)15.27 x 15.27 Adriano de Souza(BRA).
They tied in the heat - when this happens the Champion is who surfed the best wave; in this Final was Mick Fanning(AUS) wave 8.17 x 7.77 wave Adriano de Souza(BRA).
So Mick Fanning(AUS) was the 1st place, and won 10,000 at Ranking while A. de Souza(BRA), 8,000.
See, I am not saying that M. Fanning(AUS) did not deserve the victory- only that was a smooth DETAIL.
In July, in J-Bay, South Africa, M. Fanning(AUS)suffered a shark attack at the Final and the stage was cancelled.
It was an Australian final: M. Fanning(AUS) x J. Wilson(AUS) and both surfers finished in 2nd place, each one scored 8,000 points. Who might imagine a "shark attack" in professional surfing event???
Who might win the stage ???
The champion would score 10,000 points and and the 2nd- 8,000 points- this was a big DETAIL.
On the order hand, I may comment on the surfers performance: they are professional athletes, and are in excellent shape on the manuevers, but depends on wave conditions. I am from the Southern(RS) Brazil, where the color of sea water is darker. I had already been in many surf spots : Cidreira, Pinhal, Tramandaí, Imbé, Mariluz, Atlântida, Arroio do Sal,and Torres, border of Santa Catarina, where I guess the sea has better conditions. I also lived in Garopaba, Santa Catarina, where there are many beaches for surfing: Praia do Silveira(for me the best in Garopaba -WCT 2003), Ferrugem, Siriu, Gamboa; Praia do Rosa, Praia da Vila (WCTs),in Imbituba; Praia da Joaquina(WCT), Praia Mole, and other beaches in Florianopólis, the capital of this amazing state. Here, in Rio de Janeiro I already visited Arpoador, Barra da Tijuca, Recreio dos Bandeirantes, Pontal, Macumba, Prainha. However the people comment the best beach for surfing is Saquarema; I also visited Cliff House in San Francisco and Stinson beaches in California,USA. And I may say all of them are different and have different conditions, different waves, and so on.
Unfortunatelly, I have never been to Hawaii yet, but there the waves break close to the shore; they are strong and with tubes, and coral below so some surfers may take some advantages there. Also depends on sea conditions.
.
Last year, the current champion Gabriel Medina almost won in Pipeline. The current competitors that won there are: Bede Durbidge(AUS), Kelly Slater(USA), Taj Burrow(AUS), Jeremy Flores(FRA), Joel Parkinson(AUS) and Julian Wilson(AUS). However, the American Kelly Slater(USA)is the surfer that won more times(six) there. And some surfers, do not have good records there!
We should think about!!!
I might be so wrong but this disputed Final in Pipeline, Hawaii may surprise the world of
surfing. Perhaps one of competitors may clinch the World Title for a DETAIL: a wave, a tenth at last second, for instance!!!
Try guess???
Let's watch this long awaited stage in Pipeline!!!

We talk with
Adriano de Souza
I am the favorite to be champion of the circuit.
For ten years in the elite of surfing, Mineirinho shows confidence in the first title and provokes Mick Fanning.
MINEIRINHO LED THE THE WORLD CIRCUIT FOR FIVE STAGES DURING THE 2015 SEASON
LUCAS STRABKO
lucaspaschoal@lancenet.com.br
Adriano de Souza, o Mineirinho, is 10 years along competing in surfing world elite and never had a chance like this to be, finally, champion.
The last stage this year, performed in Pipeline, in Hawaii, starts tomorrow. In the ranking of the season, the Brazilian is in the 3rd position, with a insignificant difference of points to Mick Fanning, the first, and Filipe Toledo, the second.
In other words, Adriano de Souza depends only on herself to cure the frustration of never having risen to the highest point of the podium of world's leading surfing competition.
It is the first time that Mineirinho reaches to the end of the year fighting for the title. In this interview
to LANCE!The surfer of Guarujá(SP) -who is called Mineirinho because of his older brother, the Mineiro - he showed very confident in affirming that is the favorite to clinch the world title in professional surfing.
In addition to declare as the main competitor for the title, the Brazilian snubbed the declarations of Mick Fanning given to L!(the interview with the Australian will be published tomorrow)aboutg who he considers the main rival in this final of year. For Fanning, his main concern is with another Brazilian Gabriel Medina, current champion.
-It is good. So I stay with less evil eye -said Mineirinho.
Since he entered in the circuit, the Adriano best positions in the season were fifth positions in 2009,2011, and 2012.
In 2015, after having a excellent beginning, Mineirinho declined so much of production. In Rio de janeiro, in Fiji and in Tahiti, the surfer more experienced among the Brazilians in the elite, with 28 years, was unrecognizable. At the time, also in conversation with L! after losing the lead circuit, he said that felt himself more comfortable by relieving the pressure of the first position. After that, at the next two stages after the bad sequence , reached the final in Trestles(USA) and in the semifinals in Peniche(POR). Results that gave moral to the surfer of São Paulo for the "final".
One of the points playing against Adriano de Souza in this decision is the bad record in Hawaii. Since 2007, the best position in Pipeline was a 9th in 2008. In 2014, the surfer did not compete at this stage
because was recovering a injury.
The past and bad record left behind. At last, are ten years attempting the title - and it has never been so close.
"Water dropping day by day wears the hardest rock away." It is what expects Mineirinho in this final of the year.
The interview will be post after the stage in Pipeline.

The past and bad record left behind. At last, are ten years attempting the title - and it has never been so close.
"Water dropping day by day wears the hardest rock away." It is what expects Mineirinho in this final of the year.
The interview will be post after the stage in Pipeline.

Now is the moment of truth. After ten stages disputed along ten months, the world circuit of surfing reaches to the decision time in the most emblematic and traditional stage sport. The strong and tubular waves of Pipeline, in Hawaii, break a few meters from the sand and let no space to doubts. Only the best can dominate them. In a perfect setting from Tuesday, three surfers compete inch by inch the title of the season, with three others running out. They are three Brazilians and three Australians in the fight. Pipeline will decide.
The 2015 WCT was one of the most equilibrated of recent times, with Adriano de Souza, Mick Fanning and Filipe Toledo taking turns in the ranking lead. Only 450 points separated the three main candidates for the title. Gabriel Medina, Owen Wright and Julian Wilson show up with fewer chances -especially the two Australians.
Six different surfers won stages in 2015, but only one of them won three events. Filipe Toledo was the best in Gold Coast, Brazil and Portugal, and impressed fans, competitors and judges with his modern and fast surfing, based on aerial maneuvers. In the last year, Filipinho was in the water when Gabriel Medina was crowned world champion in Pipeline. It was from him the first embrace in the newly crowned world's best surfer. Now, Filipe hopes to repeat the scene changing roles.
-That moment was very special. Be there at the peak sharing with Gabriel that emotion. It is something I want to feel too, for sure.
Current world champion, Medina had a very bad beginning of the year and arrived to occupy the 21st position in the ranking before starting a sensational recovery, what let him to arrive to Hawaii in fourth position. The bichampionship dream is more alive than ever, but Medina will need to reach at least the semifinals in Pipeline, as well to cheer against the competitors.
-My flame was on since the beginning of the year, but there are some things that we do no explain, just happen. If they fail I will do my best to win - promises.
MOTIVATION BY TV TUBE
Third in the ranking, Adriano de Souza, had a fantastic beginning of the year, with three podiums and a victory in Australia, assuming the tip. After some oscillations declined to third position, but with live chances to conquer the so dreamed cup. At 28, the oldest member of "brazilian storm" also uses the title of Medina last year as motivation.
-I watched all by television because I had undergone surgery and did not compete at that stage, but cheered a lot for Gabi. For sure, see that motivate myself a lot this year to clinch this desired title. Now need a little.
The biggest name of Brazilian surfing in big waves and wide experience in Hawaii, the surfer of Pernambuco(PE) Carlos Burle bet on bichampionship of Medina but confesses that cheer for Adriano.
-Medina is the most dangerous of them, because has very talent and is the guy more complete. I would bet on him by surprise effect and by his unquestionable capacity and talent, but I would like
that Adriano win. He deserves a lot.
