Towards the tri? Medina clinched the bichampionship in 2018

Began the fight for Tokyo-2020

Gabriel Medina(BRA)in the fight for another record, Brazilian storm, and dispute for vacancie in Tokyo-2020 Olympics. These are some of the attractions of the 2019 World Circuit of Surfing(WCT), that began yesterday, in Gold Coast, in Autralia. The stage has window untill April 12th.

The defending Champion will fight for the trichampionship, after clinched in 2014 and 2018, a feat never conquered for a Brazilian. Besides this, the dispute will have the participation of 13 athletes of the country, being 11 in Men's and 2 and Women's championship. In the first group, Peterson Crisanto(BRA) and Deivid Silva(BRA) will make their debut.

The format of World Circuit also gains prominence  after being modified by the World Surf League(WSL).The first Round will rank the two first to the Round 3, while the third position in the heat goes to the Recap. In it, the two first go forward, but the third position will be eliminated.

Before this, it was made heats man to man. The Round 3, now, will have 16 disputes(before were 12) and the Round 4, 8(before were four, with three athletes), and everybody man to man eliminatory. To finish, the awards of the Wome'ns also will be same of the Men's championship.

The olympic running motivate the surfers for entering the Sea and increases the intensity of competition, that give vacancie to the Tokyo -2020 Olympics, when will compete 20 men and 20 women. The athletes will have to be in the Top-10 of the 2019 Ranking. However, threre is exigence: only two place to the men and two to the women are secured to represent their respective countries.By the way, if there will be more of two surfers per country, the best positioned in the Ranking will be classified to Olympics.

2019 Championship Tour will give the majority of vacancies in the Tokyo Olympic Games in 2020. Eleven Brazilians in the dispute.

Renato Alexandrino
renato.alexandrino@oglobo.com.br

Traditionally, the best surfers of the world start the season on the Snapper Rocks waves in Australia and want to reach well positions in the Ranking to the final stage in Pipelin i Hawaii. This year, it is no exaggeration to say that the thinking of the most part of the surf elite is a little further: at Tsurigasaki beach in Chiba, Japan, site of the sport's Olympic debut. The debut. The 2019 Championship Tour(CT), which starts tomorrow in Australia will be the main competition to distribute vacancies for the Tokyo Games -2020, ranking the top ten in the Men's and the eight best in the Women's -defining, therefore, 18 of the Olympic surfers.

The Tokyo games will be disputed by 20 men and 20 women, with a limit of only two athletes per country, promising a true "scythe fight" at the top of the CT Ranking.Even if it out of the dispute for the title, one competitor has an incentive and so much to keep going to win the heats and adding points in the world Circuit.

Brazil will once again have the higher contingente in the elite, with 11 of 34 competitors. Peterson Crisanto and Deivid Silva are the rookies, while Jadson André returns after staying a year out of the CT. Still recovering from a right knee injury, Adriano de Souza, World Champion in 2015, should be out of the early stages. In the "Brazilian storm", three names appear as favorites, to the dispute for the Olympic vacancie and the World Title: Gabriel Medina(BRA), Filipe Toledo(BRA) and Italo Ferreira (BRA). One trio of favorites Medina, Filipinho, and Italo clinched eight stages in the last year, dominating the Ranking, with Medina in 1st, conquering the World Title - Filipe in 3rd and Italo in 4th. That is, even with a great season, Italo would be out of the Olympics if 2018 season would define the vacancies to Tokyo. Everyone will get more motivation for being a qualifyng year for the Olympics. The goal is to reach a great season to get a place. My preparation is much more intense and focused on this. -said Gabriel Medina, 25 years old, two-time World Champion.*version above by Paulo Piqueres -Postgraduated in Advanced English -PUC -Pontifície Universidade Católica-Porto Alegre -RS -Brazil

"1,000th" POST OF SURFWORLDTOUR.BLOGSPOT.COM- by Paulo Piqueres

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "1,000th" POST OF SURFWORLDTOUR.BLOGSPOT.COM- by Paulo Piqueres
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I begun to work with surfing in 2008 -read the post "SURF "the most beautiful sport" 2008/2119"- on the blog-, I did not imagine what will going on. I started in 2008, in Vila beach, Imbituba, Santa Catarina, with a Celular Nokia 6225i, with minimum resolution, and filming only 25 seconds. After this event I created a simple blog of surfing by Geocities of Yahoo, that later on was desativated.
So in March of 2010, I creaded the blog surfworldtour.blogspot.com by google, about the professional surfing -WCT - World Championship Tour, and after 10 years on the line, the blog reached its 1,000th post.
Let's remind the first post of the blog in March of 2010:

The Picture of the first post in 2010 was taken, when I was 2009 WCT, in Vila Beach, in Imbituba, SC. It was a "day off"(no competitions), and I was awating some surf sessions of professional surfers, when I looked to the shore and Taj Burrow(AUS) was approaching to the channel, so I went running and ask him for the photo, he stopped by,and I took the picture. Read the post about Tribute to the great surfer Taj Burrow -May 6th,2017 -, he won the WCT three in times in Brazil (Rio de Janeiro-1999; Saquarema-2002; Florianópolis-2004)
So I came back to the structure of the event, the company Skol, was on of the sponsors, and a Skol girl, so beautiful asked to see the photo. She said :
It is so nice, but you should have a camera with more resolution.

The Champion of this event was Kelly Slater(USA)11 times World Champion of Surfing, exactly on my birthday, July 3rd, so at the end of event, I told to the Skol girl:
-Today is my birthday!!!
She said: Really???
I showed her my ID, and she smiled and congratulated me!!!
She was a model in Florianópolis, Santa Catarina, and unfortunatelly I never see her again.
In 2010 I bought a Motorola Cel with 1.3 Mb of resolution, and in 2012 another Nokia with 5Mb.
In 2016, finally I bought my dreamed Sony camera, Full Hd, with 60x optic zoom, and I can film for hours only replaced the card. The debut of my câmera was on the blue turquoise waters of Grumari, filming Gabriel Medina(BRA) the two time World Champion(2014/18).

The posts of the blog along this period:

These 10 years of surfing, only gave me joy and happiness, that will never disappear from my heart, because were  deep events as the waters of the oceans.

When the WCT was in Imbituba, SC, I used to catch the bus in Porto Alegre, and after 6 hours of travelling reached Garopaba, a surfing town, where I have friends and liked to stay.

In 2011 the WCT moved to Rio de Janeiro, to Arpoador and Barra da Tijuca beaches, so I came to Rio by Azul Airlines, and  arrived in Santos Dumont airport, in downtown, and I did not know any directions, but soon I asked information to the locals -"cariocas"- that  always were so nice with me.

After this first trip to Rio, I already have come around 20 times, and now I living here. The surf has much more media in Rio de Janeiro like newspapers, magazines, channels, sites, blogs, surf companies, surf schools, surf events, in and so on. And is close of Saquarema, where is the event of CT -Championship Tour since 2017, promoted by WSL - World Surf League.

Finally, I would like to thank everybody the any form help me on my blog, site and channel during this period  of 10 years, on the shore; the  Estacio University, where I do my posts; to bus companies, that I catch to go the events, as the line 309 - Downtown to Alvorada terminal-that I used years to go to Barra da Tijuca; 1001 bus company that I use to go to Saquarema since 2017; to the hotel in downtown where I used to stay since 2012; the locals of Rosa and Vila beaches, Garopaba in Santa Catarina; Arpoador, Barra da Tijuca, Grumari and from Saquarema in Rio de Janeiro; the promoters of the events, as WSL -World Surf League; the surf Rescue; the brands and sponsors of "the most beautiful sport": SURF; and finally the surfers, that since my first event in Rosa beach, a qualyfing event to Men's Petrobras surfing,  were so nice with me.
Thanks "SURF",  by its huge source of energy  and positive vibe for my life.
