>SAQUAREMA,RJ - December of 2015.Candidate to the World Title, Owen Wright(AUS) is hit by a series of heavy waves in Pipeline, in Hawaii, while is training to the last stage of that year. The Australian leaves the Sea and goes to rest in the house where is staying. Wakes up, desoriented, with difficulties to breath, and is taken to the hospital, where is diagnosed with a brain concussion. There began a drama that would last 15 months of many uncertainties and would finish with one of the greatest recoveries of the history of the sport.

The surfer with 27 years came back to compete in last March, in the first Stage of the Circuit, in Gold Coast, in an event as a screenplay of movie. He was passing heat by heat till defeat his compatriot Matt Wilkinson in the Final.Left the water crying, carried by his brother and sister, the current World Champion Tyler Wright, and acclaimed by the public and competitors. A victory that looked like more a fairy tale. Yesterday, he defeated the Brazilian Bino Lopes in the Recap and is the Round 3 of CT of Saquarema.

-It was so nice that victory in Gold Coast. It was the greatest moment of my career - remembers Owen, that says that entered in that Championship with modest expectations:

-I want only stand up and make some manuevers, you Know? A snap here, another there. I did not wait to come back so well.

Third in the Ranking, he competes in the top, but guarantees that a possible title is the last thing that goes through his mind:

-I want only to be well and surf well. Just this.

The World of Surfing awaited anxious for returning of Owen, that stayed  away of the spotlights during the recovery.

-In many moments I thought that I will not be back. It was a roller coaster of emotions. The injury was in the head. I am still working, doing physiotherapy every days. The expectation is to be better from the middle of the year - he explains.

Medina e Yago avançam ao terceiro round

Medina and Yago advance to the third Round
The sea dropped and the wind did not help on the second day of the Brazilian stage, yesterday, in Saquarema, taking the Organization to finish the disputes after the fourth heat of the Recap of the Men's . But it was enough for the Brazilians Gabriel Medina and Yago Dora, and the Australians Owen Wright and Matt Wilkinson  guaranteed themselves in the third Round.

The day began with Yago facing Kolohe Andino: he got a 9.10 in a beautiful aerial (repeating the debut) but needed a 4.13 to pass the Round. A few minutes of the end, the score came: 5.17.

The heat of Medina was the third of the day, when the wind increased, got worse the formation of the waves. The contest against the also Brazilian Jessé Mendes was tense and fierce. Medina took the initiative, but it did not go well. Jessé took advantage and scored first. But Medina was able to turn even in the middle of the heat and held the advantage  till to the end.

Today, there is a call to 6:45 am. But the forecast is that the sea will drop more. Disputes should only come back tomorrow.

Yago Dora surfed very well in the Round 1 of the Brazilian stage of the World Circuit and almost defeated the current World Champion

Nice to meet you, Yago Dora

Brazilian young has a lot of prestige in the international scenario, but is still unknown to the Brazilian public
Victor Costa
victor.costa@oglobo.com.br

Dora, who turns 21 years on the next 18th day, is son of Leandro Dora, coach of Adriano de Souza in the World Title of 2015. A few years ago, his name was successful in specialized sites around the world. In Brazil, however, it is still unknown to the general public. But, this scenario is changing. Yesterday, in his first participation in the world elite, he was 0.03 of defeating the Hawaiian John John Florence in the Round 1 of the Brazilian stage of the World Circuit in Saquarema (RJ).

Yago entered the competition by winning the Trial. And soon in its first heat in the elite faced the current World Champion and leader of the Ranking.

-I know Yago. I knew he would hit an aerial like this-said the Hawaiian surfer about the maneuver that scored 9.27 to the Brazilian.

The debut of Yago impressed by his coolness. While John John surfed wave after wave, he did not feel the pressure and waited calmly for his opportunity. Despite this, he did not get to show the best of his repertoire, and the incredible aerial, the highest score of the heat, left the feeling that he would have guaranteed the place to Round 3 if he had made better choices.

Today, Yago opens the Recap against the American Kolohe Andino. Yesterday, only three Brazilians - Filipe Toledo, Adriano de Souza and Ian Gouveia - advanced to the Round 3. Gabriel Medina, Wiggoly Dantas, Jadson Andre, Jessé Mendes, Miguel Pupo, Yago Dora, Bino Lopes and Caio Ibelli will also have to dispute The Recap.

Almost won: Dora lost the heat to John John by 14.67 points to 14.64

Medina:day of the Recap

Medina seeks to remain alive in Saquarema

Among the duels of today, one calls more attention: Gabriel Medina against Jessé Mendes. The two dominated the Brazilian Amateur Circuit in the base categories.

-From the age of 11 to 14 years old we faced ourselves many times. There were Amateur championships almost every week. But many things have changed since then, "said Jesse, 23 years old, the same age as Medina.

In the base categories, Jesse was more popular. Today, he avoids comparisons with the 2014 World Champion. The two faced themselves for the last time in the second stage of this season in Margaret River, Australia. Jesse won, but it was a heat with three surfers.

The other heats of the Recap will be: O. Wright(AUS) x B. Lopes(BRA);M. Wilkinson(AUS) x L. Fioravanti(ITA); M. Bourez(PYF) x J. Andre(BRA); S. Zietz(HAW) x E. Ewing(AUS); Caio Ibelli(BRA) x J. Duru(FRA); C. Coffin(USA) x B. Durbidge(AUS); C. O'Leary(AUS) x S. Kennedy(AUS); A. Buchan(AUS) x M. Pupo(BRA); F. Morais(POR) x J. Freestone(AUS); E. Lau(HAW) x W. Dantas(BRA).
