Balance. There is no better word to define the World Circuit of Surfing in 2017. The first seven stages were won by seven different competitors, which had not happened since 1992 - that is, 25 years ago. And with the Championship Tour (CT) arriving in the final straigh, no less than seven surfers arrive in California, structure of the eighth stage, with a chance to take over the top of the Ranking. The CT of Trestles begins today, with deadline until Sunday, 17th, to be held.
The South African Jordy Smith(RSA) starts Trestles with the desired Yellow Jersey of the leader, with the advantage of only 950 points over the Hawaiian John John Florence(HAW). Also 950 points separate John John(HAW)from the Australian Matt Wilkinson(AUS).
Adriano de Souza(BRA) dropped to the sixth position, Gabriel Medina(BRA) is the seventh, less than nine thousand points behind Jordy - he has chance to take over the lead if he wins and the leaders lose prematurely. Medina is the only one among the favorites who has not won a stage this year but arrives positive by a third place in South Africa and a deputy in Tahiti. Owen Wright (Top 4) and Julian Wilson (Top 5) are the others who can take over the top in California.
The democratic list of winners of the year also points out to a renewal. From the seven who went up to the top of the podium, only two - John John and Adriano - have been World Champions. The other winners were Wilkinson, Owen, Wilson, Jordy and Filipe Toledo.

Medallions are down in this season
CT bogeyman like Kelly Slater, Mick Fanning and Joel Parkinson had passed in blank till here. Only Parkinson does a regular season, eighth in the Ranking. Fanning is the 12th position, while Slater in 24th , fractured two toes of the right foot on the South African stage and difficultly returns to compete in 2017.
In a year so balanced, one thing is certain: anyone who wants to dream with the Title will have to work with a "zero error" protocol. After California, there are three more stages: France, Portugal and Hawaii
- Regularity makes a lot of difference. In my case, I was 13th position in the last three stages and dropped to the sixth position. We can not lapse if we want to reach the last stage with chances - said Adriano, which will have a 100% yellow-green heat in the first Round in Trestles against Wiggolly Dantas and Miguel Pupo.
Medina will debut against the Australian Adrian Buchan(AUS) and American Nat Young(USA). Filipinho is scaled with the French Joan Duru(FRA) and the Italian Leo Fioravanti.
