WOMEN'S CT - SEARCHING THE 2017 WORLD TITLE OF SURFING by Paulo Piqueres - surfworldtour.blogspot.com
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The dispute for 2017 World Title of Surfing/WSL continues between the same Top 3 surfers, the Australians S.fitzgibbon(AUS),T. Wright(AUS) and the American C. Conlogue(USA); after CT#09 - Quiksilver Pro France dispute in La Graviere beach, Hossegor, France, two World Champions:C. Moore(HAW) and S. Gilmore(AUS)took the 4th and 5th position respectively in the Ranking.
The fight for the World Title is so close, with small difference of points, so the Title of this season will be decided in Maui, in Hawaii, in the end of November. I guess all the top 5 surfers of the Jeep Leaderboard Ranking have chances to be champion in the last stage of the championship. because, a top surfer might be eliminated prematurely of the Hawaiian event..And is depending of combination of results, only Sally depends of herself, I mean if she clinched the Championship in Hawaii, and the 10,000 points, she is the World Champion of the season; but in case she disputes the final agains T. Wright(AUS)and if the Yellow Jersey is defeated by the current World Champion, Tyler, the Australian wins the event and is the World Champion again...In case of S. Fitzgibbons faces C. Conlogue(USA), C. Moore(HAW), or S. Gilmore(AUS)even if the Australian Yellow Jersey is defeated, she clinches the world championship this year, the first in her career.
So let's check the performance of the Top 6:
Top 1
-----
The Australian S. Fitzgibbons(AUS)surfed very well in Hossegor, France. She reached the Semifinals, only faced the Recap in the Round 2, when she overcame the Wild Card Caroline Marks(USA). the australian surfer only was defeated in Semifinals by C. Moore(HAW), otherwise she had a bigger difference in points in the first position in the Ranking.
Top 2
------
The 2016 World champion T. wright(AUS)also surfed very well in France, only was defeated by the "highlight" L. Peterson in the Semifinals in La Graviere beach with the score- 17.20 to 15.56 .She is only 1,700 points behind the rival S. Fitzgibbons, so has good chances to be the Champion in Honolua Bay beach, in hawaii. The Australian depends of only herself, I mean if she arrives in the Final, and win the championship, she also clinches the World Champion, in the following seasons: 2016 and 2017;
Top 3
------
The Californian surfer, C. Conlogue(USA)was the top 2, but lost this position in France to T. Wright(AUS), because she was eliminated by her compatriot L. Peterson(USA) that surfed a lot in Hossegor. C. Conlogue(USA) is disputing the World Champion in the last three seasons, but unfortunately did not achieve his goal yet..But may be this year in Hawaii, why not..If she faces the top 1, S. Fitzgibbons in the final, even if the she win the dispute, the Australian is the World Champion because the difference of points...She has to surf very well in Honolua bay, for arriving in the final, against other surfer, not S. Fitzgibbons(AUS)
TOP 4
-------
C. Moore(HAW)the three times World Champion was in the seventh in the Ranking Jeep Leaderboard before the event in France; she faced two recaps - the Round 2 and the Round 4, for arriving in the Final, against L. Peterson(USA), but everything was ok for the Hawaiian surfer, that is now the top 4 in the World Circuit of Surfing. She has chances to be the World champion but is depending of combination of results, because has a difference of 5,600 points of the top 1, S. Fitzgibbons(AUS)
TOP 5
-------
The 6 times World champion, the experienced Australian surfer S. Gilmore(AUS), has chance to be the Champion by the seventh time, but is depending of combinations of results, because the difference of 7,750 points to the top 1, S. Fitzgibbons(AUS).
TOP 6
-------
L. Peterson(USA)surfed very well in the second part of the year, reaching good scores, in the events, but even if she faces the top 1 and the Final, and clinches the championship in Honolua Bay, the World champion is the top 1, S. Fitzgibbons(AUS)
Next year, certainly the talentous Californian surfer will dispute her first World champion.
HIGHLIGHTS
-------------------
WSL/ Damien Poullenot
At my opinion the main "highlight" in France, was the deputy champion, the Californian surfer, L. Peterson(USA), since the Round 1 till the Semifinals, she won all the heats. She defeated the Top 2, her compatriot C. Conlogue(USA), the Top 3 T. Wright(AUS)the current World Champion. The surfer of Santa Barbara, California, is always in good shape for the competitions, and more strenght and techical in the manuevers..All the last season of 2016, she was out of World Circuit of surfing, because she was injured. she came back, more confident and reaching good scores in the events. and soon will be one of the top surfers in the world, nowadays she is th 6th, but she might finish the season as the Top 2.
The Hawaiian surfer M. Manuel(HAW)also surfed very well in France. She is in good shape, defeated her compatriot the Hawaiian-Gaúcha T. Weston Webb in the Recap -Round 2 , and after in Recap - Round 4, eliminated the local, the French surfer J. Defay(FRA)

The World Circuit of Surfing arrived on the waters of France, a wonderfull country, that I already visited when I was going by rapid train from Barcelon to Paris ...Nowadays, there are many French surfers in the Men's World circuit as Johanne Defay(FRA), Pauline Ado(FRA).
The event in the beach of La Graviere, Hossegor, was scheduled to start on October 07th, and started on Saturday October 07th, with small waves, even without the best conditions for surfing. The "swell" has not arrived yet. This year, I was in Saquarema, I could see, feel when the "swell arrived" on the dawn of Tuesday, strong wind, the waves with power and no good formation, the outside looked like a shake machine, as they say.

QUARTERFINALS
------------------------
heat 1
--------
AT the opening heat of the Quarterfinals, the duel of World Champions between the Hawaiian, C. Moore(AH) and the Australian S. Gilmore(AUS).This heat the Hawaiian defeated the Australian by the score - 16.13 to 14.17., and after two Recaps-Round 2 and 4-, C. heat 3
-------
The inspired L. Peterson(USA)surfed very well for defeating her compatriot C. Conlogue(USA) with the score 13.83 to 12.90. I may point out that the Californian surfer of Santa Barbara, L. Peterson was guaranteed in the semifinals in the famous event of Roxy Pro France, straight way, I mean she won all the heats she disputed- Round 1, Round 3, Quarterfinals, with good manuevers and scores too.
heat 4
------
The current World Champion, T. wright(AUS) overcame the hawaiian M. Manuel(HA)that surfed very well in La Graviere beach, and also reached the Semifinals straight way, with no defeats, she won all heats that disputed in Roxy Pro france.-Round 1, Round 3,and the Quarterfinals,
After the Quarterfinals, the event stopped for five days, because the Sea did not have good conditions for surfing.Small waves, with no swell..
I may point out that the Semifinal heat 1, the surfers, as C. Moore(HAW)faced two recaps, and S. Fitzgibons, faced one recap for reaching the Semifinals while in the heat 2, both surfers, the American L. Peterson(USA)and the Australian(AUS)T. Wright arrived in the semifinals straight away, with no defeats, simply won the heats, they disputed on.
SEMIFINALS
-----------------
heat 1
-------
At opening heat, the World champion C. Moore(HAW)overcame the Yellow Jersey Top 1, S. Fitzgibbons(AUS).So the Hawaiian was classified to the great final in France.
heat 2
------
This heat, perhaps one of the best heats of Women's Championship in Hossegor, France, the Californian surfer, in good shape, positive, and inspired overcame the current World champion, T. Wright in a great duel in French waters of La Graviere beach.
FINAL
--------
The final in Hossegor, France, the Hawaiian C. Moore(HAW)started with good waves and scores, and the American had to find good waves, manuevers, and scores too. However, the Californian surfer is doing an excellent season after being injured all last season along. I have already knew L. Peterson(USA)in 2012, six seasons behind, now she is more confident, with more strenght in the manuevers, and reaches good scores in this season too. L. Peterson(USA)said in the podium that she hopes the next time to be the Champion of the event.

The inspired L. Peterson(USA)surfed very well for defeating her compatriot C. Conlogue(USA) with the score 13.83 to 12.90. I may point out that the Californian surfer of Santa Barbara, L.
Peterson(USA)and the Australian(AUS)T. heat 2
------
This heat, perhaps one of the best heats of Women's Championship in Hossegor, France, the Californian surfer, in good shape, positive, and inspired overcame the current World champion, T.
