I could not start writing about "SURF", -the most beautiful sport -without going back to the college period at Unisinos, São Leopoldo, RS, Brazil. My family had a house in a small beach, very close to the Sea, about two blocks, at night we heard the waves of the ocean. I always enjoyed watching the surfers dropping the waves, paddling, doing the maneuvers.

This beach was about 15 km from Tramandaí, RS, and its vacationers were mainly from the capital, Porto Alegre, and some from my town even. My friends from my home town since ever, loved SURF, and besides surfing, we liked to  stamp T-shirts with surf designs, brands invented by ourselves.

After the graduation at college, I got a scholarhsip from the State Government by academic performance, and went to San Francisco, California. I got a plane from Guarulhos, São Paulo, Brazil to Miami, Florida, USA; and then a friend and I went to California by Greyhound bus. We traveled 2,500 miles in 4 four days, it was a long and so nice trip.We crossed over eight states of USA. I studied Marketing at San Francisco State University, San Francisco, California.

When I came back to Brazil  I worked in the International Area - exportation, banks, trading, foreign trade agents, and in 1999 I took the Postgraduation degree in Advanced English at PUC -Pontificie Universidade Catolica, in Porto Alegre, RS. And in I was teaching English Language and Statistics at a State Government High School.

Unfortunately, at the end of 2005, my father passed away and I quit the English classe because I had to make other commitments. In 2006, I went to Garopaba -Surfing town- in Santa Catarina, and I really liked the beaches, the waves, contacts with surfers, surf companies, and in March of 2008, I went to my first surf event- Men's Qualyfing of Petrobras -in Rosa beach, close to Garopaba, and I loved it.

In 2008, I went to my first WCT - World Championship of Surfing in Vila beach, in Imbituba, Santa Catarina, around 60 km from Garopaba, where I used to stay. Since my debut in professional surfing events - WCT, I went to many ones, that are currently called CT- Championship Tour -organized by WSL - World Surf League. When I started were promoted by ASP - Association of Surfing Professionals.

2019     Upcoming                Saquarema RJ          ....................................
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We may observe that in these 11 events, three athletes won 2 events as follows, and Brazilian Surfers won 5 events, about 45%, almost the half of all the events:

Jadson Andre (BRA)        - won in 2010 ;
Adriano de Souza (BRA) - won in 2011 and 2015;
Filipe Toledo(BRA)         - won in 2015 and 2018;
John John Florence(HAW)- won in 2012 and 2016;

And the others 4 events were clinched by differents countries, as follows:

Bede Durbidge(AUS)       -won in 2008;
Kelly Slater(USA)            -won in 2009;
Jordy Smith(SAF)            - won in 2013;
Michel Bourez(PYF)       -  won in 2014;

And the two times World Champion of Surfing, the Hawaiian, John John Florence(HAW)also won two events :
In 2012 and 2016 - when he clinched the World Championship of Surfing.

I am going to my 12th CT - Championship Tour

This upcoming event in June 2019, will be my third in Saquerema, maybe in Itauna(2017)or in Barrinha, or in both, as in last year(2018);I remember exactly when a "big swell" arrived in Itaúna beach in May of 2017, and let the Sea so balanced with high waves.
I will never forget the time of college, that we went to the nightclubs, and watched SURF movies on the big screen and heard nice songs, it was very cool. In these almost 12 years in World of Surfing, many things have changed, more and more, we observe social networks, applications, new surfing channels on cable TV, or Youtube, blogs, websites in this sport which has grown a lot in Brazil. Now with three World Titles, as follows: year World Champion 2014 - Gabriel Medina(BRA);
2015 - Adriano de Souza(BRA);
2018 - Gabriel Medina(BRA).

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Last year 2018, was tumultuous for all, we had economic and politica instability, strikes, anyway, but passed...
Now we have new projects, plans, scheduled trips to this upcoming season.

OI Rio Pro in Saquarema, Rio de Janeiro now is the fifth event of the tour, as the Indonesian event in Bali entered  in the circuit before Brazil, which was the fourth event, till last year, after the three events in Australia: Gold Coast, Bells beach, and Margaret River, in fact the Corona Bali Protected, in Keramas beach, is now the third event in the WSL tour, before the Margaret river one.
Then the World Circuit of surfing disembarks in Brazil, type in the middle of the tour, fifth in the all 11 events.

 Finally, I like to thank a lot, all community of surfing, all over the world, top surfers and their staff, the World Surf League, the media envolved, the surf rescue, the local people of the beaches, by the learning, the improving and the happiness the SURF has provided me over these almost twelve years.
I knew new beaches, new top surfers, new maneuvers, new technologies, always updating with new ways, new horizons.

Thank you "SURF", my idol ever.

Let's recall a little these 11 events, since 2008 in Vila beach, in Imbituba, Santa Catarina, my debut in WCT -surf professional competition.
I hope there will be many events yet in Brazil and overseas.

MEDINA GUARANTEED THE TITLE IN PIPELINE, IN HAWAII, WITH THE RIGHT THE
SCORE 10 IN ONE OF THE HEATS OF YESTERDAY

Four years after of being the first Brazilian to become World Champion
of Surfing in mitic tubes of Pipeline. Gabriel Medina, 24 years, conquered
 yesterday the second championship of CT, in Hawaii.

He guaranteed the title of the season after advancing to the Final of stage
of Pipeline, Hawaii, result that he needed for not depending of nobody(the
stage had still not finished in the closing of this edition).

The top of his participation in Oahu was in the Quarterfinals. After started
12 points behind the American Conner Coffin, he surfed a wave scored 9.43 and
another one that received the best grade, 10, to advance to the Semifinals,
when overcame the South African Jordy Smith in a heat so balanced.

Born in São Sebastião, in the coast of São Paulo, Medina keeps himself among
the best surfers of the world since 2014: he was third in 2015 - when the
also Brazilian Adriano de Souza, the Mineirinho, won and in 2016. In the
last year was the deputy champion.
-It was a year very intense, I am so happy now. Always came here to do my
best, I believe in the plans of God, I have faith it and I had a good day.
I am so happy for doing this again. This is for Brazil - said Medina right
after to leave the water and celebrate with family and friends.

In 2018, Medina had as great advantage the regularity(see the board at side).
He arrived to the decision after to win two of 10 stages(Taiti and
California)less than Italo Ferreira, that finished the year in the fourth
place after to win three events. The difference is that Medina had a good
performance even when he did not reach the Final. Before Pipeline, he
advanced to the Semifinals three times and stopped in the Quarterfinals
another three. His worst result was 13th in the first stage, held in March,
in Australia.

Medina that started at nine years gathers precocious deeds in his career.
At 14 had already particated in Qualyfing Series of World Surf League.
In 2011 with 17, surprised the world when won two stages soon at his debut
in the elite. He was pioneer in the conquest of first world title of a
Brazilian in 2014, at 20 years.

Today the surfer of São Paulo is treated by the World Surf League as the
surfer with more base of fans and became an icon of modality. Before the
last stage, he received messages of incentive of names as Pelé, Neymar,
Ronaldinho Gaúcho, Cesar Cielo and Gustavo Kuerten.

In Instagram, he is followed by 6 million of users, number bigger than
the sum of followers of legend Kelly Slater and 2 times World Champion
John John Florence(2016 and 2017), greatest rival of Medina in late years.
