Still wasnot in Portugal that Gabriel Medina clinched the World Bichampionship of Surfing. In the dispute of tenth stage of Circuit of WSL - World Surf League, held in Peniche, the currente leader of World Ranking was eliminated by his compatriota Ítalo Ferreira in the Semifinals. In the Final, Italo reached to defeat the French Joan Duru and won his third stage in the season.

Medina was leading the duel with Ítalo, till the final minutes of  the dispute, but the surfer of RN(Rio Grande do Norte)surfed a beautiful aerial that scored the grade 9.30 and gave him the advantage in the heat. In the end, better for Ítalo, that finished with the total of 16.47(9.30 + 7.17)agains 14.73(6.88 + 7.90)of Medina. in the other Semifinal, the French Joan Duru defeated the Australian Owen Wright.

In the Final, Ítalo Ferreira dominated the heat from the beginning to the end, adding 15.93 against 10.77 of Joan Duru. Win of the surfer of RN , that kept in the fourth place in the World Ranking, the best performance of his career in the circuit.

Combinations for the tittle

To conquer the bi World Championship without depending of other results in the next stage, Medina will need to reach, at least in the Final. If the current leader of Ranking reaches the third position, Julian Wilson and Filipe Toledo will have to  clinch the stage to take the World Title from Medina. Staying between the 5th and 25th position, Medina give chances to Filipinho and Wilson for clinching the World Circuit of WSL, in case of reaching to the Final.

The preparation to the Final stage

The last stage of CT - that will decide the World Champion if Gabriel Medina does not win in Portugal  - will be performed from 8th to 20th of December in Pipeline, in the island of Oahu, in Hawaii. It is one of the waves more fearly of the World, with many variations: may break a small tube right or even a big left. If the Wind would be offshore is perfect, because is easier so much for surfing and catch the tubes that Pipe offers. But if would be strong from the North, entering of side and with everything shaking, mainly in the Sea would be big - the waves become in fact, ferocious, huge, monstrous. I already had the opportunity of watching a Final of Pipeline so.
It is so difficult to surf, to know how to choose the right wave. There are very few surfers that know how to manage with this situation, only the more tough and experienced.

There will be a moment of much pressure and adrenaline to them that have chance of title. It is importante that competitors are very well prepared both physically and psychologically. There will be about six weeks of break between Portugal and Hawaii, a good time for this. It is importante to arrive earlier in Pipeline, to ride waves, try surfboards for all the possibilities of surfing, as the Sea of there may break from three  to 15 feet with rights and lefts. Without say that some may break in Surf sessions. Other importante aspect is the athlete should be respected by local surfers, have a good relationship with the Hawaiians because only on this way they may train in tranquility. This is a privilege of few because the competition is incredible. Some surfers stay hours to ride a perfect wave in Pipe on a crowded day.

The surf is so professional nowadays that all athletes have their personal trainers and coaches, that do evalutions, film and coment their performance on the water, giving tips about which surfboard worked better, constructive comments to get better the results. Many athletes do yoga for relaxing, have more concentration, and flexibility. The food is also very important: a nutritionist  may advise what is ideal to ingest in the train and on the day of competition.

Good luck to competitors! That Brazil keeps shining and brings one more World Title!
Aloha and good waves!

***If win the4 stage of Portugal and the Australian Julian Wilson does not reach the Semifinals,
Brazilian becomes bichampion of the Circuit.

Dreaming of the bichampionship of the World Circuit of Surfing, Gabriel Medina had an excellent performance yesterday in the stage of Portugal.
Disputed in Peniche, the heats of  the Rounds 3 and 4 were held in the morning and the Brazilian surfer advanced to the Quarterfinals of the competititon. By the way, the Australian Julian Wilson, who is the dispute by the title, will surf the last heat of the Round 4 only today.

With Filipe Toledo already eliminated Medina may become champion of the World Circuit in the stage of Portugal. For  this he needs to win the stage and Wilson can not reach the Semifinal. If the Brazilian is vicechampion or defeated before then, the dispute will be decided in the ultimate stage, in the Pipeline Masters, in Hawaai, no matters the performance of Wilson.

Round 3

The day in Peniche began with a dispute between two compatriots. Italo Ferreira overcame  Jesse Mendes and advanced to the Round 4. In the dispute with the Polynesian Michael Bourez, the Brazilian Michael Rodrigues was defeated and was out of the event.  Tomas Hermes was defeated on his heat to the Australian Wade Carmichael and Willian Cardoso was overcame by the also Australian Adrian Buchan.

Medina finished with 13.60 against 7.33 of Callinan and advanced to the Round 4.

Still dreaming about the title of the season. Filipe Toledo did not have a happy day at Peniche. Filipinho faced theFrenchman Joan  Duru and ended up eliminated with a close score of 12.10 against 12.50 of the opponent. Third place in the current WCT ranking and still with chances of title, the Australian Julian Wilson defeated the Brazilian Ian Gouveia in the Round 3 and also reached to the next Round.
