The fight for the World Title of Surfing  may have a decisive Round today when it is scheduled to call for the Round 3 of the stage of Peniche , in Portuaal, the penultimate of the season. If the waves are good (and there is forecast for), the leader Gabriel Medina, the deputy leader Filipe Toledo and the Australian Julian Wilson, the only "foreigner" that can take the title of the Brazilians will enter the water. The call is scheduled for 4am in the morning. In the case the event is ON, the ESPN 2 channel will broadcast from 6 am.

World champion in 2014, Gabriel Medina (51,770 points) is the first of the three contenders to compete. He will surf in the 6th heat against the Australian Ryan Callinan, runner-up of last stage, in France. Then enters Filipinho (51,450)  in the 7th heat, against the Frenchman Joan Duru, apparently a calmer rival. Finally, Julian Wilson (47,125) - who comes from a Title in France - closes the Round facing the Brazilian Yan Gouveia in the heat 12. It is worth remembering that Medina may be the Champion at this stage, but for this he will need to be the Champion and cheer for the elimination of Filipinho in Round 3 and Wilson  only reaches the Quarterfinals.

Mineirinho is injured 

Yesterday only were disputed the six heats of the final half of the Recap(the Round 2). And Adriano de Souza, the Mineirinho, had no good performance by an injury. The 2015 World Champion injured his knee early in his heat in the Round 2( the Recap)against Joan Duru and left the competition. Duru closed the heat already classified for facing Filipinho, without rival.

Favorites advance in Peniche

The three protagonists of the fight for the title are still alive in the stage of Peniche, in Portugal, the penultimate of World Circuit of Surfing. The Brazilians Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo and the Australian Julian Wilson are guaranteed themselves in the Round 3. For Filipinho, however,  it was more difficult to advance. He was defeated in the Round 1 by the compatriota Tomas Hermes and needed to dispute the Recap.
At Recap, he overcame the also Brazilian Samuel Pupo .
"It was hard to digest the Round 1. I only thank by the opportunity. I feel myself so blessed of surfing this wave" commented. By the way Medina passed the first heat fairly for Pupo and the American Patrick Gudauskas. Wilson, by his time, defeated Connor O'Leary also Australian, and the Portuguese Vasco Ribeiro.

Julian Wilson, Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo: protagonists in the fight for the World Title

Stage of Portugal starts today

Just four days after the end of the French stage, the World Circuit of Surfing  disembarks today in Peniche, Portugal. The tenth and penultimate stage of the championship will be the site of a fight that became more disputed with the win of the Australian Julian Wilson in Hossegor. The Brazilians Gabriel Medina and Filipe Toledo share with Wilson the protaginism in the dispute for the title in the season. Medina arrives with the advantage of being the unique that may put the hands in the Cup of World Champion already in Europe. If he wins the stage, Toledo needs to finish at least in ninth, and Julian at least in third, to the decision will be disputed in Pipeline, in December. In case of Medina finishes in second the fight follows automatically to Hawaii.
-My goal is to follow leading the Ranking, said Medina. "I know what I have to do. I am focused in myself. I already was in this position before, I hope that everything will be all right".

Wilson wins and Medina takes the leadership

In France Medina reaches the Semifinals and is the new leader overtaking Filipinho.

The Australian Julian Wilsonj won the stage of France or World Circuit of Surfing, in Hossegor,
defeated the also Australiaan  Ryan Callinan in the Final hebt by tight scores 15.34to 14.23.
The stage was very good for the Brazilian Gabriel Medina. The Champion of the stage in the season
of 2017 was defeated in the Semifinal to Wilson. However, by reaching the Semifinals, took the leadership of the competition. This occurs by the following motive: Filipinho started the stage in the leadership.  But was defeated in the Round 3 and scored only 1,750 points, reaching to 51,450.
Medina started as deputy-leader four Thousand points behind. As arrived in the Semifinals, guaranteed more 6,500 points, reaching 51,770. It is worth to remember that after the French duel are only two stage left. Portugal, in Peniche, from Tuesday and Pipeline, in Hawaii, in December.
The unique in  real conditions of taking the title of one Brazilian one's s Julian Wilson. He jumped to 47,125 points.

Marathon

The Organization decided to prolong as much as possible the stage yesterday, because that necessarily  the surfers will have the stage of Portugal in the next week. Because of this, in the same day were disputed the Round 4, the Quarterfinals, the Semifinals and the Final that finishes under strong fog and in the end of afternoon.


Medina

Gabriel Medina - that won the last two stages - won the two first heats that disputed. In the Round 4, finished in seconc place.(13.90), behind the Australian Mickey Wright(13.94), but defeating Michael Rodrigues(6.90) and advanced to the Quartefinals. In the heat two excelente waves let Medina in comfortable advantage over the Hawaiian Sebastian Zietz. In the end, 12.44 x 10.43. In the Semifinals against Julian Wilson, Medina had good performance. But the Australian took  the unique score 10 of all the stage and the Brazilian did not score to defeat him: 16.67 x 15.44 -
I am happy by reaching the leadership and and want to analise this wave score "10" of Wilson - said Medina about that one that is his strongest rival in the Circuit.



Other brazucas


Besides Medina and Michael, Adriano de Souza and William Cardoso arrived to the Round 4 and in the same heat. In this heat, Ryan Callian won with Mineirinho in second and Cardoso eliminated.
In the Quarterfinals, Adriano de Souza was defeated by Connor Coffin.




The final

Callinan started very well and the kept ahead of Wilson till four minutes to go. In this moment, his rival scored an excellent wave, receiving 8.67 and turn up the heat, took the leadership.
Needing a score 7.33 to overcame the compatriot Callinan, tried but the waves did not showed up.
In the end, Wilson won with 15.34 to 14.23, but Callinan also became happy therefore only disputed in France because received the Wild Card and overcame many favorites, including F. Toledo in the Round 3.

Brazilian storm


The "Brazilian storm", how is called the legion of brazucas in the elite of surfing, keeps going very well in this season. Till the moment, from ten stages, the Brazilian too eight: Brazil and South África(Filipinho); Tahiti and Califórnia(Medina); Bells beach/Austrália and Corona/Bali(Italo Ferreira); and William Cardoso(Corona/Bali). The Brazilians only did not win the opening stage, Golden Coast/Austrália and the yesterday one. In both Julian Wilson won.
