SEARCHING THE 2017 WORLD TITLE OF SURFING by Paulo Piqueres - surfworldtour.blogspot.com
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The dispute for 2017 World Title of surfing continues between the same top 10 surfers however some of them change their positions after CT# 8 - Hurley Pro at Trestles as follows:
Top 3
------
Julian wilson(AUS)advanced from top 5 afer reached the Round 4.
Top 7
------
Filipe Toledo(BRA)the surfer of Ubatuba(SP) was the "highlight" since the beginning of event in the state of California; He won all the heats, of the Rounds 1/3/4/;Quarterfinals/Semifinals and the Final . He is living in California now with his family; an he is surfing with great confidence and style; It was his second "win" in the season exactly after the suspension of complaining by interference noted in Saquarema, BRA/04..He advanced from 9th position to 7th position in the Ranking Jeep Leaderboard, and now is 11,400 points from the leader, the South African -Jordy Smith(RSA).
Top 8
-------
Gabriel Medina(BRA),the surfer of Maresias, São Sebastião(SP) the 2014 World Champion lost a position in the Ranking, due his prematurely defeat in the Round 3.
Top 9
-------
Joel Parkinson(AUS)the 2012 World Champion lost a position in the Ranking from the Top 8 to Top 9 due his very prematurely defeat in the Round 2
-------------------
The fight in top of Ranking keeps strong mainly between the top 1 and the top 2 as follows:
Top 1 - Jordy Smith(RSA) - 45,850
Top 2 - John John Florence(HAW)- 43,400
--------
difference of only 2,450
========
Both Top 1 and Top 2 were overcame by Filipe Toledo(BRA)as follows:
Semifinals
-------------
F. Toledo(BRA)14.90 x 12.66 John John Florence(HAW)
Final
-------
F. Toledo(BRA)15.67 x 9.33 Jordy Smith(RSA)
-------------------------------------------
From the tough dispute between the Top 1 (45,850 points) and the Top 2(43,400)to the Top 3 - Julian Wilson(AUS)there is a gap of 6,200 points.
So I might write, that in the second group there are 6 surfers, with small difference, as follows:
top 3 -Julian Wilson(AUS)
top 4 - Matt Wilkinson(AUS)
top 5 - Owen Wright(AUS)
top 6 - Adriando de Souza(BRA)
top 7 - Filipe Toledo(BRA)
top 8 - Gabriel Medina(BRA)
I also could write there is group of Australians, followed by a group of Brazilians.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Adriano de Souza(BRA)surfed very well in CT #8 in Trestles only was defeated by Adrian Buchan(AUS) in a revival of the Final in Itaúna beach, in Saquarema , CT#4. The Final in Saquarema was very disputed and A. de Souza(BRA) overcame the Australian surfer, that had an excellent performance in Brazilian stage and declared "Brazil has good waves, and beach culture too". I have already known both, from Imbituba, Santa Catarina, where I started my small blog of surfing. They are nice surfers, easygoing with me and with the fans on the shore. Both are edge athletes of surfing, and disputed many heats, since Junior championship...
Now there are more three stage as follows:
CT # 9 - France;
CT # 10 - Portugal;
CT # 11 - Hawaii.
----------------------
Fortunately I could watch the podium in Trestles event broadcasted by WSL - World Surf League, When the WSL speaker -I remind his professional and nice speaker, in 2016 OI RIO Pro after the Final in Barra da Tijuca- asking Jordy Smith(RSA)about his confident to the Title:
Jordy Smith(RSA) answered - Yes, I feel so confident....
-I wrote in performance of Top Surfers -Graphic of Lines - check the blog that we could not forget Jordy Smith(RSA)that had a good performance in Trestles, as follows:
2014 - Champion;
2015 - 2nd place;
2016 - Champion;
2017 - 2nd place.
-----------------------
Perhaps the conditions in the Final in California event, were not favorable to Jordy Smith(RSA)style of surfing.
By the way, the current World Champion, John John Florence(HAW)even with the defeat to Brazilian surfer, is in the fight for the Bichampionship this season.
-------------------
In the next stage - Quik Silver Pro France the defending Champion is the Hawaiian surfer Keanu Asing(HAW),an exellent surfer, but is not in the elite of surfing anymore. In the 2015 season on the biggest surf event in Brazil, Keanu Asing(HAW)reached the Round 4, and was defeated in the Recap. Last year, the Hawaiian surfer, was eliminated on the Round 2 - The Recap.

--------
difference of only 2,450
========
CT # 9 - France;
CT # 10 - Portugal;
2014 - Champion;
2015 - 2nd place;
2016 - Champion;
