YELLOW-GREEN PODIUM IN CALIFORNIA - by Paulo Piqueres -surfworldtour.blogspot.com
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was an "historical" day-  September 15th- for Brazilian surf in California. The podium of the WORLD CIRCUIT OF SURFING, had two athletes yellow-green. I mean perhaps will be hard to happen again, WHO knows???

I filmed the podium broadcasting by  WSL - WORLD SURF LEAGUE :

- USA/08 -HURLEY PRO at TRESTLES;

- USA/07 SWATCH WOMEN'S PRO at TRESTLES..

Both events were won by Brazilian surfers as follows:

USA/08 - Filipe Toledo(BRA)

USA/07 - Silvana Lima(BRA)

I liked when the WSL speaker said  to both :

Now you can speak Portuguese for you friends in Brazil, and they spoke.!!!

English is the Languague of surfing anyway, the name of manuevers, the equipment, the slangs, and so on..I am from farway, Rio Grande do Sul -the sourthen state in Brazil,.but I always like and study English since a Kid so  since I started my small blog of surfing in 2008, I posted everything in English, after 10 years - WCTs now CTs ,I also  prepare Version of the Newspapers of Rio de Janeiro where I am living now, also write Overviews, Performances, Tributes, and produce Videos of World Circuit of Surfing...

But it was so NICE to listen my native language in the podium, I got emotional because when I started in 2008 in my first surf event in Garopaba beach as "beach marshall" and later in Praia do Rosa - Beach of Rosa, and in the same year in Praia da Vila - Vila Beach in Imbituba, Santa Catarina,  WCT, I never could imagine what's happening today in the Tour..

Brazil has two World Champions :

2014 - Gabriel Medina(BRA) the "first";
2015 - Adriano de Souza(BRA).;

The Brazilian storm is always fighting for the best positions in the stages, in the Ranking, that's so nice for fans of this wonderful sport -"The most beautiful"...

Now has a podium of Brazilians, is so much...

We do not know what happen when we passed way...but for sure, I will MISS  the

SURF...

The surf from anywhere: HAWAII, FRANCE, PORTUGAL, SPAIN , AUSTRALIA, UNITED STATES, SOUTHAFRICA, FRENCH POLYNESIA, NEW ZELAND , JAPAN, BRAZIL, BARBADOS, INDONESIA, FIJI, COSTA RICA,PERU, CHILE, PUERTO RICO, EL SALVADOR,  and....

SURF is SURF anywhere... "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL SPORT "

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Brazilian surfer of Ceara(CE) Silvana Lima surfed his best stage in this season for sure, and has an excellent performance in Californian waters of Trestles in San Clemente. She was the "highlight" since the beginning of the event.

ROUND 1
------------
heat 2

The athlete of Ceará, S. Lima(BRA)faced the 6 times World Champion, S. Gilmore(AUS) and the 3 times World Champion, C. Moore(HAW), surfed with great performance and defeated both World Champions.

ROUND 3
-------------
heat 1
At opening heat of this  Round, the Brazilian surfer overcame the Australian  S. Gilmore(AUS) again, and the French surfer J. Defay(FRA), the deputy Champion in Saquarema, #CT 4, in Brazil, Top 5 in Jeep Leaderboard, and was guaranteed in the Quarterfinals.

QUARTERFINALS
-------------------------
Again at the opening heat, S. Lima(BRA)defeated once more  the surfer S. Gilmore(AUS) for the third time on the waters of Califórnia, and passed to the Semifinals.

SEMIFINALS
------------------
In the first heat of the Semifinals, S. Lima(BRA) overcame the surfer of Santa Barbara, Califórnia, Lake Peterson, the surfed very well this stage, and reach the best score of 2017 SWATCH Women's Pro 19.57 in the Quarterfinals. Unfortunatelly L. Peterson(USA)was injured in the last season- check the Overview of the Californian surfer in the blog -

FINAL
--------
S. Lima, the "highlight" of the stage in Trestles, did not lose any heat in Califórnia event  and overcame the Australian surfer K. Andrew(AUS).

=======================================================================

The surfer KEELY ANDREW(AUS)
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Australian surfer K. Andrew(AUS)entered in the elite of Surfing in 2015, and is always in good shape for the competitions, overcame the Top surfers of California: Sage Erickson(USA)and Courtney Conlogue(USA)and did her first FINAL in the Tour.

I would like to point out that  K. Andrew(AUS) in 2015 when  I prepared some "WAX" to give to the surfers, after the competitions  .So after the event was over, I asked her for a picture and she promptly  holded the "WAX" of my blog of surfing and  and I took the photo and posted on the blog. I had a good memory, I never forget the things that happened...

She is also nice with everybody on the shore.

So I got so happy for her performance on the waters of California, her first podium., maybe soon will come more, let's wait for...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The surfer SILVANA LIMA(BRA)

I already knew S. Lima(BRA)in my first event in 2011, in Rio de Janeiro, after the tour moved from Imbituba, Santa Catarina...The surfer of Ceará, is so nice girl, always simpatic, and high "astral" - easygoing with  everybody on the shore.

In the summer of 2015 I live in Barra da Tjuca, and sometimes I met S. Lima(BRA)and she was so nice...

When I asked her for a photo for my blog, she always attended me so  well, with great "smile", and also is so nice with everybody, the fans, the athletes, the water patrol, she treats everybody so well, I like her profile...

For sure this was a nice FINAL in California, I wish to be there, maybe next year.!!!

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

F. Toledo(BRA) the Champion of 2017  HURLEY Pro at Trestles, also comentted in the podium commented about the Women's Final, and the congratulated both Keely Andrew(AUS)and Silvana Lima(BRA)
