Introduction
---------------
Since I was a kid, I love the films of surfing in California, in Malibu, Venice, Santa Monica, Latigo beach in Los Angeles; Ocean beach in San Francisco and so on...So after receiving a schoolarship from my State Government- Rio Grande do Sul -the Southern state in Brazil by taking excellent grades in the course of Business Administration. I decided for a Summer course of Marketing in San Francisco , California. So I went to U.S.A. for the first time.
It was a "dream" for me, I studied English since 7th grade in Elementary school in my hometown and later on I used to go to Porto Alegre, the capital of my state,RS; to study English..I love English .So after years of classes in the Basic and Intermediate I received my degree in Advanced English in the course called Instituto Cultural Brasileiro Norte-Americano in Porto Alegre. I had excellent teachers. I studied a lot, I always studied a lot...
It was my first trip to U.S.A., my flight was from São Paulo to Miami; I went with a friend of mine, that I knew in the English course. We arrived in Miami on Saturday late night in May, after the Immigration we went out the airport and it was so "hot" , but I love hear the people speaking English, I had to practice my English all the time.
Than we caught a bus of Greyhound lines to San Francisco. We crossed the country from East to West, and passed over the states: Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Mississipi, Louisiana, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and finally arrived in Los Angeles, California, for resting at bus station, had an apple pie. It was a long trip, around 4,000 km in four days and I lost four kilos on this long trip.
My friend was still learning English, but he was a nice friend, unfortunatelly I did not meet him anymore.. That time the tecnology was not so advanced; we sent a letter to the Residence Club on Post Street and they answered us with the reservations. So when we arrived at Greyhound bus Station, we caught a bus to downtown and went directly to Residence Club. They were so nice, and received us so well, with an American breakfast: juice, fruits, cereals, scrambled eggs, bacon, crisp diced and coffee, we stayed in double room on fifth floor. We had breakfast in the morning; dinner after 5:00 pm from Monday to Saturday; and Sunday Brunch.
After arriving I went to San Francisco State University and did my enrollment in Summer course of Marketing. My teacher was Mr. Johnson, he had white hair, and was an excellent teacher.
Once he took the students to visity HP - Hewlett Packard in Palo Alto -my notebook is a HP -, I was so happy in San Francisco. After the University in the morning I liked go around, had snack on the streets as Market Street; to watch TV news at night; I bought a 49ers Football Jacket. Football team of San Francisco. I have a good memory I remind many things. I knew many Americans in the residence club, on the weekends we use to go to Fishmermans Wharf , China Town, to Spanish neiborhood, sometimes I played pool.
I have Spanish origin by father side, my great grandfather came from Spain to Brazil in 1890. I speak a little spanish, but with a Mexican intonation because I practice many Spanish there where I stayed for six months, according to my Visa.
In 1999, after teaching English in High School, for years, I did the Postgraduate studies in Advanced English at Pontifície Universidade Católica, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil.
So I decided to prepare this overview to Lakey Peterson(USA)because she is from California, my favorite state in U.S.A., and mainly because since I started covering Women's championship of surfing in Rio de Janeiro, she always treated me and everybody so well on the shore and she has many and many fans all over the world and in Brazil too..Unfortunatelly in 2016 season, she did not showed up because was injured. So I desire an excellent season for her this year...

2011
------
In this stage in Brazil, there was competition of Women's, but my blog just "concerned" about Men's contest. In this 2011 stage was raining a lot in Rio de Janeiro...Adriano de Souza(BRA) won the Billabong Rio Pro stage and Carissa Moore(HAW)won Billabong Girls Rio Pro I only posted some photos and results of Women's Championship on my blog.

In 2012, my 5th WCT, I already knew many surfers, the Hawaiians: Carissa Moore(HAW), Coco Ho(HAW) Alana Blanchard(HAW); the australians: Sally Fitzgibbons(AUS),Stephanie Gilmore(AUS), Laura Enever(AUS); the Brazilians Maya Gabeira(BRA) and Silvana Lima(BRA), Sofia Mulanovich(PER), Courtney Conlogue(USA).
In 2012, the competition of Men's and Women's ocurred simountaneasly in the stage in Brazil, so I decided to post both "Circuits" on my blog, Men's and Women's...In this stage ,the first day of the contest was in Arpoador beach. I took many pictures,(See the blog on )of the girls, as Alessa Quizon(HAW), Tyler Wright(AUS), Pauline Ado(FRA)...

SAMSUNG GALAXY Championship Tour - WSL - Word Surf League
On the first day, the event was "lay day", cloudy with 1-to-2foot waves and light wind.
Gabriel Medina(BRA)a surfer of Maresias(SP)was the current World Champion and the event was the biggest surfing championship in Brazil.
There were many people in Postinho - Barra da Tijuca, from all country around and overseas too.

This year was different because there were competitions in Grumari, and later on in Postinho -Barra da Tijuca beach , in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Unfortunatelly Lakey Peterson(USA) did not dispute the contest in Brazil because she was injured, and all Brazilians and I missed her, on the shore, on the contest, so focused as always, her sympathy and nice energy with everybody...

LAKEY PETERSON (USA) is so focused on the heats, and is always in an excellent shape for competitions.
Once I guess in 2013, she was in guardrails, after the heat, giving DVDs(maybe a movie of her?) to the fans and when I arrived, there were no more DVDs so I asked her: Please Lakey, take just one more for me???
She so pleasant answered - I will think with care about!!! So I asked for her for a picture and she stopped and smiled for while !!!So I was so proud because I have the pleasure to talk with her for a once...I will never forget!!!...I work with surf since 2008 and like all surfers, but some are so "nice" as Lakey Peterson(USA). She has a good energy, I realized this since the first time she stopped on the shore for a photo, she is humble girl and treats everybody so well..I am still awaiting her DVD, perhaps one day she will remind and take one for me(kidding!!) I always thought about to write anything "special" about her, the time arrived after five stages in Brazil!!!

Finally, this Overview is a TRIBUTE for Lakey Peterson(USA), for all her family, mainly to her father, that was a great champion of Swimming -one of my favorite sports besides surf- , for all her friends in California, and fans all over the world and in Brazil, too. I know she deserves much more than this simple Tribute but it is what I am able to do for myself and desire her an excellent performance in this upcoming season.(from heart as we say!!!)
Ultimately, to this Wonderfull Country, where I learned a lot of English.
